Performance Alignment Setup

Hey everybody. I am going to get an alignment soon and was wondering if anyone has used a more performance oriented alignment for their CL? Like specifically what caster setting did you use?

I am thinking of going with 3 degrees or so, to sharpen turn in, and leave camber close to factory specs as possible to avoid tire wear.

Does anyone know the best toe settings for our cars to eliminate wear?

(oh and before the flamming, I searched and do know the OEM specs - I am wondering how it has been when people approach the edge of them or know the perfect settings)

Thanks guys

i have my legend set it -.5 deg's camber front, toe O, -.3 rear camber and .6 postive toe i can't adjust.

i like how it feels compared to having more camber.

caster i left alone.

also, my tire wear really bad at -3 deg and still pretty bad at -1.5 at -.5 which is bearly in spec for the legend, they seam to be evening out a little more.

steering response is better too. but that just might be b/c i replaced the worn ball joints.

Just got back from the shop. Camber is -1.5 in the back both sides, -.5 and -.75 front L and R. Toe at 0 in front and 1/8" out back. Had them do caster at +3.5

I'll have to see how the camber wears on the tires, and then decide whether or not to get a kit. Feel real nice in the corners now tho.

camber the same since it can't be adjusted. Toe was out like 1/4" in the front - eek! Caster was around 2. Handles better, tramlines less now.

might just be me but id rather have everything to factory specs and ensure long life of tire. honestly, how often are you taking hard turns. because of required premium gas im always babying it unless circumstances require me to redline through the gears. how fast and how often are you taking turns that you need to have bad camber on public roads?

exactly. If I could I would set it to no more than -0.5 degrees but at the moment I don't have time or money to do a camber kit. Come spring if the tires look like they are getting ugly I will do a kit and bring the camber closer to spec.

Plus if you are always babying it due to the required premium gas, why did you buy a type S? My car sees redline at least once a day and I love it - worth the gas $ for the stress relief

true dat!!!! i
m jealous of my friends rx-8 which demands a redline minimum of 1 per day to rid carbon deposits.
-im getting my car alignged at a performance shop as we speak(lowered on tein basics). cant wait to pick it up after work and waste some gas redlining at every oppurtunity.
i wish i could hit redline more around here but traffic makes it imposiible unless i take a ride to the country or its afterhours- i heart vtec

the rx-8 motor sux. BTW, taking it up to redline to maintain low carbon levels is not unique to the rx-8. if anything, it is more important on our motors to hit vtec or redline daily for low carbon levels.

i wouldnt fuck with the caster on our cars not only because it is a daily driver, but a luxury car. you dont need to change it unless its out of wack.
many people think that camber eats their tires. in fact its toe that eats the inside of the tire most. it will take a long time for just camber to wear a tire. imo, caster and toe should be at 0 unless you track your car. adjust the camber accordingly to your likings. negative camber will help with cornering but too much camber in front will keep more power from getting to the ground.

I really like the way it feels with the caster where I have it - steering feels a lot tighter and centers itself well when I am cruising. No real problems with increasing caster, especially since it's still within OEM spec, just on the high end.

Agreed on the toe and camber wear issues. The dude left the rear toe a little bit off 0 because he said it would be best that way with the camber being off...
