Clunk in the Trunk

Ok I don’t really think it’s from the trunk. But somewhere in the rear suspension, I have a clank. Sounds like metal on metal. Anyone have any similar issues and what did you do to solve them. It always happens on side streets, and when you change gears. Can’t tell anything when I am on the highway. Anyone had anything similar in there CLS??

torsion bars come loose?
I dont know how to fix them but search can be helpful. Type in trunk rattle or torsion bars and you should find what you are looking for.

yea, torsion bars, the fix is easy.

right in the center you will see a small metal bracket that the bars attach to with a plastic clip. the metal bracket has 2 small tack welds that snap easily. drill 2 small holes in the bracket/deck, and push 2 small self tapping screws in and your problem will be solved. throw in a lock washer for added tension.

could be a multitude of things.. if it's in your suspension, check this out.

could be rear sway bar links (#6,#7), lower bushings went bad (#14)

So, you're saying when you switch gears. Not when you hit a bump or something? How about the exhaust pipes. They will rattle around as you switch gears and the engine moves if you have a loose bracket or something. Take it to a shop. If it's not happening when you go over a bump, I'm not sure if I'll say it's definately the suspension.

It does it on bumps too. I thought exhaust too but they still attached to the hangers and are secure. It's not only when you shift also when cruising at low speeds-under 45 mph
