Can you check your Comptech Springs?
Can you please check your Comptech Springs and answer this poll?
Please check this thread for more info:

A couple of members (at a minimum) have had trouble with corrosion. The springs basically "collapsed." (my words).
If you have them, could you have a look at them and check to see if there are any visible defects such as:
1. Breaks in the springs coating.
2. Any visible corrosion or rusting
3. Any rub marks. (Look if possible at the coils that are closest together).
4. Any other visible marks, defects, or items that might be noteworthy
And finally, if you find defects and/or corrosion could you report if you’re in:
1. An area that gets enough snow to require road salt.
2. Are in a marine environment (by the beach or in an area where you get a lot of "salt spray" into, under, or on your car).
Would you mind reporting in?

I know mine are rusting, but I’m not sure how bad.
I’ll check them out Saturday and post some pictures.
So far they’ve been through two salty Pennsylvania winters.

Crap! Mine are rusty after 1 year and 15k miles. They've been through one salty Cols winter and they look like ass. I'll post pictures tonight. FYI the back springs are easy to inspect. Just look up under the rear fender and you can see the whole spring. I'm within the warranty period but I don't really want another crappy set of springs. I was shocked when I saw them. I really thought they would look like new still. This blows!

Some info from Comptech's site.
That's some crummy powder coat if that's what it is. My springs were purchased last summer so they are fairly new.
Comptech offers a variety of products to help improve the looks and performance of your car. A simple modification that will improve both the looks and handling of your car is to fit a set of Comptech Sport Springs. Comptech springs are designed to lower the car 1 to 1.5 inches and are cold wound on CNC machines using chrome silicone wire. The springs are silver powder coated and are matched in pairs during inspection for rate and length so that ride height will be consistent.

Yes 2 years.. They are pretty flexible the did give me $100 off.. But then they over charge me $25 by accident. lol I'm still getting CT springs as a replacement.. It might be a mistake but we'll see.. I defintley recommend everyone atleast look at their springs.. As soon as I swap the springs I'll take pics when they are off they car..
Edit - And the warranty is only valid to the original owner..

I have one that looks new, and the other three have minor surface rust, with nothing thru the coating, and no rub marks. 50k miles since March 03, with one salty Michigan winter. I thought they did not look too bad at this point, but voted #2 since there was some minor rust spots.

Well, Comptech did "step up to the plate" on the early headers that had vibration issues. Perhaps they will do something "nice."
IMO, if you make car parts, you need to consider environmental factors and...
The poll is basically a "safety service" to allow owners to check out their cars and see if they are about to lose a spring. Perhaps a clear pattern will emerge.
It's one thing to have a misfire or have some vibration or buzz -- or even have the motor die on you. IMO, it's an entirely different matter to have a suspension failure. If your suspension "goes away" at the wrong time, things could end badly I think that falls into the realm of: :captainobvious:
Hopefully, a lot of members will report in.

OK I just went out and checked my springs .. I assumed they would be just as I had described them before .. in good condition.
To my surprise upon close inspection, there were tiny little pin hole sized rust spots all over them. The bottom coils of the rear springs seemed to be where it was the worst, with one spot even having a slight section bubble up. The fronts also had pin hole sized spots all over it but not as bad as the rear. No major rusting besides the one spot that I said bubbled. This was just with a peak inside the wheel well .. I did not jack the car up.
Does anyone know a good place to buy TEIN's?
oh BTW, I live in the same town as Randys. Lacey twp, NJ (jersey shore) They are subject to snow and road salt. I am also one street away from the bay, and I spend alot of time in Seaside, Long Beach Island, and other places by the ocean.

Where is my super sauce?
I just checked mine.
Installed 5/03, probably about 10-12K miles on them. Has gone through a harsh PA salty winter.
Grey powder coat fully intact. I can still read the Comptech embossed label and part number on the two passenger side springs (cannot tell if the label worn on driver side vs spring installed so label is not out).
Rubber spacers on rear intact.
No special issues noted.

Here's what mine look like after one year, one mild winter and less than 15k miles
Notice how nice the finish is on the Koni shock still. This really chaps my ass!

Man--now I'm pissed.
My front springs look absolutely fine--still silver and nice. My rear springs, on the other hand, are completely corroded! No way this can be due to local conditions.
ChadT--I wish mine looked like that! That's not too bad, but I bet it will get there.
Damn, I don't want my springs cracking! That would be a BAD thing!
Has anyone contacted Comptech about this?

Not to threadjack but seeing as I was planning on purchasing Comptech Springs within the next two weeks this thread kind of scared me. Given this information would people here go with another brand (in the same price range) if they had it to do over again. Also, I don't want to install a camber kit so I'd like to keep the drop reasonable.

The front two look pretty good but the rear ones look like SHIT.
One is worse then the other though.
I didn’t pull the wheels, I just shined my shop light up in there and looked as best I could.
The front two look pretty good.
The rear passenger side is pretty bad with MUCH rust.
The drivers side rear spring is horrible. Solid brown and caked with flaky rust.
NOT a happy camper here.
Pictures tomorrow when I pull the wheels.

I just finished installing mine. I bought them used from niz, so I don't know how long he had them on, but there seems to be a few rust spots on the rears but none on the front. I'll try and take pics tomorrow and I'll see how long he had them on his car before I bought them.

I am with you Shawn S...........nstalled at PAA with only 15-20k on them, the fronts seems fine, BUT the rears look bad, especially the drivers rear! The pic above is the same way my ct springs look like in the back! I live in NY!!! We get hit hard with snow, ice leading to salty, sand roads!!! Hopefully the car wont see that much snow this year since I bought a beater!!

Definitely crap steel and crap coating. Well what do we do now fellas? I don't really want another set of these rusty coils which I'm sure Comptech would offer since mine are way less than 2 years old. Kind of blows because these springs have the exact drop I want. I think we need some comparison to some other aftermarket springs to see what they look like after some time in the "rust belt". I've never seen factory springs rust like that. I've seen rusty springs but they usually rust on the surface and that's it. They don't rust through and fall apart. I think the type of steel used may be the issue here.
