window glass off of track
window glass off of track
Whats going on guys. I have a problem with my window glass that has never happened to any of my cars. Today I was pulling up to the bank and I started rolling my window up. I heard a lock noise like someone threw something at my car window. My window stopped rolling up. So I pushed the button to roll the window down to see if that would help and the whole glass went down into the door... To me it seems like maybe the glass fell off the window track? LMK if any of you guys have had this problem and if it is fixable to do yourself. Thanks in advance.
It wont go up? You need a new window regulator. I forget the list price, but I got it for around $80.
Its easy to install, just pull the door panel off and pull the plastic weatherproofing off as well. You should see theres a track in the middle thats bolted to the window and connected to the track via 2 cables is the motor. Unbolt the motor (3 bolts IIRC), unbolt the window and pull it out of the door carefully, and unbolt the track. Slip it through the speaker hole. It shouldnt take any more then 45 mins if you know how to operate a ratchet.

I went out right now to check if the motor is still operating. It sounds like the motor is fine b/c I hear the motor operating and hear the track moving(scraping the glass). Im not going to mess with it further, the last thing I need is to crack the glass or scratch it. So Im guessing that the glass is off the track only. Am I gonna have any regrets removing that plastic on the door?
That noise means the clips on the track broke. The cable is no longer connected to it. Honda thought it would be a great idea to use horrible plastic and a very thin piece of metal to secure the cable to the track. The motor/track is sold together. Thats the only way to fix it.
Good luck though, I hope for your sake the dealer has it in stock. It took me 2 days for it to come in when it happened to me.

Hello, sorry to revive this thread. My driver side window system also broke. Removed panel, found round white plastic thing with one edge broken. Also a metal piece. I guess that is what Civicdrivr is saying. Any opinions? all help is very welcome. Is that a common isue with our cars? my only option is getting the full mechanism new? does anyone have the part number? Thanks in advance!
Yep. You need the regulator. It sells as one unit.
PN: 72250-S3M-A12
It lists for ~$100 but you can get it online for around $80.
If Honda reinforced the metal tab that holds the plastic in place the regulators would last.

great help civicdrvr... it seems as if you have given birth to this car!
I saw part number 72250-S3M-A03 in hondapartsunlimited.com, mine is a 2001 type S, should I disregard that number and just go for the 72250-S3M-A12 that you mention? Driver side is the faulty one. Thanks again!

The number you posted is the old number, the one I posted is the number that supersedes it.
If you notice in Hondas PNs, the first 5 digit grouping is the part type, the middle 3 are the chassis and the last three are revision codes. Sometimes the last three will be followed by a one or two letter code which indicates color, if applicable.

Great lesson! I had been wondering about those numbers only changing last digits... awesome! Thanks again. I was reviewing the broken parts, Honda could have solved this issue easily, what breaks is the plastic semi circular piece on top of wich circular part is supported, after it breaks goes off center an pulls apart whole thing. Well, no use nagging, I love my car!
Yea, I thought I had pictures of the part that failed on mine but I can't locate them. If I have to replace another one, I may try to reinforce the metal tab that eventually bends from repeated use.
had to replace the regulator a couple months ago too. If you bring a print out from the internet including shipping costs, some dealers will price match that.
Super easy to install/uninstall. Couldnt really get the plastic "sheet" off cause there was too much glue along the side so I just cut holes where the bolts are so that I could access them and then sealed it up with some tape after I was done.
