What MPG should I be getting??
So its an 03 CL-S 6 Speed with ~95,000 miles and usually from full to empty I make it about 320 miles. I think this is low, is it? and if so any thoughts as to why it would be low?
What? With all my mods Im still getting better mileage then you guys.
400miles on 15 gallons every fillup, and thats mixed highway/city.
The best I got was 31mpg, and the worst was 22mpg. I averaged 26.5mpg since the day I bought the car (I keep all the reciepts, Im crazy like that).

miles per tank is a very inaccurate way of measuring fuel consumption, its like that thread that said 170 miles at half tank or something.
you need to fill the car full
reset trip odometer
fill up full again at next time you need gas
divide miles used by gallons of gas bought
and heres the link to my graph of fuel consumption for my CL.

You werent out of gas, the tanks capacity is 17.1 gallons. They absolutely lowest I took my tank was 16.5xx and the car was difficult to start and I thought I was going to run out before I got to the gas station.
Good catch regarding 19 gallons. Maybe the station he was using has uncalibrated pumps?

I just updated my MPG tracker:

Disregard the first fillup on 8/20/09, I fat-fingered it.

Lol, I have all but 3 receipts since I bought the car (2 in NY, one in Jersey). Im anal like that. I also omitted the mileage that wasnt a full fill up (there were a few).
I usually collect the entire months worth of gas receipts in my center console, and every time I fill up I write down the mileage I had at the time. Then at the end of the month I staple it together and put it in an envelope with the rest of the gas reciepts. Its part of a huuuuuuuuuuuge binder of receipts.
I know, Im a receipt whore.

i'm kinda the same way with the receipts so i can check my mpg every tank (i go in if they don't print out) except for i don't staple them and save them
BTW: you will be able to detect a problem with your car before the check engine light will ever come on, cause you will see an increase in fuel comsumption, which is the first indictation there is a problem
the computers in today's cars can cover up ALOT of problems with their adaptive learning and such, and it is easier to make a rich running engine run smoother
also i would have done the partial fillups too, but you did it the way you wanted too

What sort of driving do you do? Alot of City driving?
If you look at my MPG table, most of the time I was getting less then 25mpg, I was in NY. Driving 5 miles then shutting the car off was a big cause for that. In VA, my shortest commute is 15 miles. Hell, the food store is 5 miles from my house, and the nearest gas station is 3 miles.
The first things to look at if you are getting bad gas mileage is your air filter and your spark plugs. The simplest things can cause bad mileage. Do an oil change. Go with thinner oil. Are your tires properly inflated?
Once you know all your fluids are topped off and everything is to spec, then you should start looking deeper. One cause for bad mileage can be valves being out of spec. When they are out of spec you wont get a CEL.
Also, a hole in you exhaust will not only create a disgusting noise, but it will also contribute to higher fuel consumption.

Also our exhaust systems geneally last the life of the car
(but we replace windshields every couple of years and the paint on the front end can kinda be chipped to hell
), like my bosses wife's car which is a 93 toyota camry V6 with 280K still has the oringional exhaust on it with absolutly no holes and just surface rust
Check you spark plugs first. I forget what the gap should be, but make sure they are within spec before you drop the $$ on them.
or completly let off of it
and doesn't know that you can just push it half way and i wounder how fast he goes through brakes
, cause with his driving i might

btw, posting early enough in the mourning with a little too much

,
or he only knows how to push the throttle to the floor (WOT)

or need to lose some weight out of the car like pushing your FAT GF out

or you need to empty out your trunk of all your shit
I don't use my CL that much because i want to keep the mileage low. I guess i like to speed in it because i don't drive it very often
Lol. I do many spirited runs. My commute consists of frequent 100mph highway jaunts, high rpm pulls, and when Im in the city I drive like a NYC cabbie.
Thats probably why my insurance is so high
Ive got a quarter tank left and Ive got ~300miles on the tank. Ill fill up tomorrow.
