Just had my timing belt service done at the dealer on my 01 with 75K miles. Dealer said they would inspect it and I told them to go ahead and do it- worth the peace of mind for another $100. Also should do water pump and belts while they are in there.

and seals and idlers, etc.

ask yourself, are you willing to pay the labor again? How many of these components can last another 7 years/105k miles?

You absolutely need to replace the tensioner. Cannot stress enough. Do you realize what happens if the tensioner breaks? to your engine

They're gonna have everything apart anyway. All you're paying for is the part.

I've gotten two estimates on the timing belt service, one from the dealer and the other from a repair shop with the imprimateur of a national automobile club. Both would replace the serpentine belt, water pump and coolant, and tensioner along with the timing belt itself, but the second shop would also replace the camshaft seals and the sprockets also.

How strongly do you guys recommend changing the seals and/or sprockets when doing the timing belt? Also, I read in another thread that the timing belt tensioner adjuster is a separate part from the timing belt tensioner - it sounds like that should be replaced at the same time, right?
