Sticky throttle problem

I've got a 2003 CL-P and it has a sticky throttle. I've checked the cable for binding and found nothing wrong. I've cleaned the trottle body and this helps for about 6 weeks but then the problem comes back. I can not figure out what is causing this. I have a drop in k&n filter and I have the resonator removed from the bottom of the intake. Could I just be getting too much dirt into the throtle body? Should I change the filtler back to stock. Thanks.

Lube the cable linkage & the gas pedal linkage. Also how are you cleaning the TB? You need to get it there good by hand. Hold the TB plate open & clean both sides as best you can.

Also try PCV filters or a catch can so that you keep the air hitting the TB as clean as possible. You could try placing an air compressor line filter in the middle of the PCV line from the front valve cover to the intake and possibly get a better filter or clean it better, maybe some of the K&N oil on the filter is getting onto the TB? Was it recently cleaned? Food for thought.

Don't use the K and N filters on a throttle body car. The oil from the filter gets into the TB and causes it to stick, this is why it works for six weeks, then the oil builds up and makes it stick.

No that's if you OVER oil the filter. I haven't had 1 problem in 10+ years in any car. That includes cars with Mas Air Sensors.

Yeah it has to deal with using to much oil, but you got to ask.
I'd check the cables again, des it idle high? If so maybe its too tight.

Also if you did a TB coolant bypass in colder climates your TB will stick so examine to make sure this is ok.

Thanks guys for the responses. I have cleaned the throttle body with a wire brush and throttle body cleaner. The first time I did this I got a lot of gunk out of it. It lasted maybe 1 1/2 to 2 months. Then I had to clean it again. this time it wasn't very dirty but it was sticking. Not sure why. The k&n is clean and is not oiled too much. I checked the throttle cable linkage and found no binding and also greased it well. I have never had a car that had this problem. It is very annoying. Well I guess I will continue to clean it.

Your going to have to explain the problem you have better then, it could be some other stuff but its hard to say with the small amount of details. Have you checked the coolant lines going to the TB?

Is there a CEL on? Maybe your talking about the car not responding to throttle inputs as you believ eit should such is the case with slipping trannies, clutches and misfires, and O2 sensors that are giving bad readings.

Or could be a bad TPS or MAP sensor. How does the car idle? rough? smooth?
Does it seem to stick when hot or cold? In P N, or D? What speeds? slow or fast?

The problem is the gas pedal sticks. If I don't drive the car for a day or two it is much worse. I've disconnected the cable to the throttle body and manually moved the butterfly. It seems to stick right at the beginning just as the butterfly opens. This happens in all gears and neutral hot or cold. It is very annoying in stop and go traffic because it makes the car launch or jerk forward. I am thinking about getting a throttle body off ebay. Will a CL-S throttle body work or will I have to stick with a CL-P?

I'll sell you my spare Accord TB for $60 shipped if you'd like, its pretty much the same as the CL-P and the CL-S would also work, but its not necessary unless you have done everything to your car NA and want to go that extra step.

Is there any problem with the throttle body? Will it bolt right on? Do I need to use anything from my throttle body? Let me know. I may want it.

Nothing wrong with it just have it laying around since I have the J32 in my Accord now instead of the J30A1 motor that the throttle body came on.

You'll just have to reuse the MAP sensor from your TB and put it on this one (top plastic sensor) and the IACV (Intake Air Control valve) the unit on the bottom of it that warms up the air during cold starts to aid in the warm up process.

I had this with my 2001 cl-s. Sticky butterfly valve. Always from idle when accelerating from a stop. People thought I was racing them.

I took the TB apart and cleaned it a couple of times with similar results, sticky again after a few months.

What worked for me (about 2 years now) was to remove the butterfly valve and very lightly rub with fine emery cloth around the edge. Rubbed until it started to shine.
