Exclamation Is this the Starter in my 2001 CLS? Please help me out...

I am gonna drop this question here... my CL just wont start, it will give alil click but thats it.... stranded me at the post office last night... had to get it towed home... ... any ideas? and NO, its not the fuel pump relay... LOL... I fixed that last summer and checked it last night....

My CLS also has a battery thats just 3 months old... it has done this a couple times before, but I thought it was just a loose battery connection...

thanks in advance yall!!!

I responded in Naumans thread, but:

Youre not getting any cranking right?

Check the battery, check for loose connections from the battery to the starter, test the starter. It could also be the ignition switch.

Dont hot wire it to the batt. The safest way to test is to pull it out and bring it to someplace like Auto Zone. They will test it for free.

Has the car given you an issue in the past? Before you do anything tonight, try starting it one more time.

The ignition switch contacts get old and worn so they only work intermittently. Im leaning more towards that as usually a starter will show signs of going out before it stops working (nasty noises).

BEFORE I took it apart...I tapped the starter, hooked it up to my wifes truck and still... it just clicked... seeing how slow it turned when tested, I cannot believe it even clicked... and the it had clicked a few times over the pasted month, but it would start on the second try... believe me, if your car is acting like this at all, make sure you do something about it pronto... Im a c-note short due to being a lame guy!

I did like you said and took it to autozone... the guy was cool.. he tested the battery and it was at 100%, so the alternator and wiring was good...but that starter turned so freakin slow!!! I coulda hand cranked it alot faster!!! OMG!

NOTE: it passed the electrical test (Nauman said it would), but it is jacked up inside, so it wouldn't turn... remember this just in case this happens to you!

BTW... even with my poor tool selection, it took me just 30 mins to remove the battery, its tray and the starter... if you dont remove the battery and its tray, you will be playing twister with your car!

Civic, We love Hommie da clown... quote him once a week at least...

Yeah man, that thing wouldn't beat an egg! An old lady in a wheelchair turns faster!

...anyhoo... gone score one from Nauman tomorrow ... hopefully and then install it next week... anymore starter trouble and I will have it re-manufactured at a place here in H-town for about 90 bucks...

Exclamation

UPDATE:

I bought a new starter from NAPA with a lifetime warranty and road ride assistance for about $160 bucks!

Half hour later, I am back on the road again...

Lesson for 2G CL: if your starter acts up once, replace it with a new one...
