SRS Airbag Light Question
SRS Airbag Light Question
Having just bought a 2001 CL Type S with 154000 miles, I'm into determining what needs to be done. First thing is getting rid of the SRS airbag light. I read the sticky thread on it - https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-p...ension-478199/ - but am wondering if I'm going to need to hit a dealer or a mechanic. Can I just clear the code?

2) You can buy the 07PAZ-0010100 SRS Service Connector and TRY to clear the code(s) by erasing the DTC memory. Believe me, the instructions ARE here somewhere on this forum OR can be found online.

3) You can take the car to an acura dealer, pay the diagnostic fee, and get an exact idea of what's wrong, SRS wise, with the car. If it is just a faulty drivers side belt buckle (#1 or #3 on the link below), you may be able to get a free replacement, depending on how firm of a negotiator you are via the 'Life Time Seat Belt Warranty'.
If there are OTHER problems like a faulty occupant position detection system, then you may ultimately have to PAY to get it ALL resolved.

Good Luck!

Read this thread for how to reset the SRS light
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-p...-light-742517/
Try to turn the engine off and on several times (remove key in between) with the seatbelt NOT fastening, the SRS light should turn off shortly after the engine started.
You can check to see if the seatbelt buckle is the problem: with the key out, fasten the seatbelt, then insert the key and start the engine. If the SRS light stays on, it is very likely that your seat belt buckle is bad. Take it to an Acura dealer, and if it is bad, they will replace it for free, worse case is to pay for diagnostics fee. I tested mine this way before taking it to the dealer. Had mine replaced along with airbag recall earlier this year, both for free. I'm second owner and currently at 230+ K miles

The service manual has a process described for determining which SRS DTC is present. it can be one of many things:
- best case: a code that needs clearing
- a part that needs to be replaced under warranty by the dealer
- a part that needs to be replaced out of pocket
- worst case: a srs module that needs to be replaced out of pocket; say in the chance that the previous owner was involved in an accident and replaced all the other parts: airbag, seatbelt tensioners but didn't replace the SRS module (because it is pricey).
