Performance auto trannys, shops that would do a type-s swap?

Tranny started to show signs of failing. From P to D5, tranny tries to engage into first but then finally does after 2 sec and bucks. Tranny shutters through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd but then smoothes out in 4th and 5th.

Are there any companies that make a built 5 speed auto or atleast fixed the problem? If not, does anybody know any shops on Long Island, New York or any shops maybe in the tri-state area that would do an auto to manual swap?

Yeah, I did just buy it. I realized something about the car. The one and only owner took out a loan to buy the car. This means she really cared for it if she wanted the 30k she spent to be worth it. At 40k they replaced the tranny as per the recall, and she treated it nice till 180k when the tranny probably did some funky stuff and she knew it was time to get rid of it. The dealer that sold it to us was supposively a friend of ours and told my parents "it did this shutter thing in 1st but they all do that."

All this being said, I will still drive the car out within reason and see how long it lasts. I will look into the 06-08 TL tranny as YeuEmMaiMai said. I notice, p.diddy, you had the swap done? I checked the thread and I like what I see. I am talking to a show tomorrow about possibly having that done. Gonna also look into full exhaust and maybe some other performance goodies. Can the 06-08 TL tranny be beefed up?

Tried checking it multiple times. The fluid doesnt seem low but everytime I check the stick the fluid is atleast 4-5 inchs up the stick and I cant get an accurate reading. Fluid looks aged and has material in it.

That sucks, does not sound good either. I just said that because you said it took a few seconds to engage. Typical of low fluid. But now it does seem there are more problems.

It does the slow engaging of 1st but other than the shuttering, the gears shift fine with very slight delay and respond well with shift-tronic but does shift hard on wot. Reverse is fine too. Hear some slight whine on the first few gears but goes away.

stop car let it cool off and check fluid cold. should be in the hatched area on the dipstick or between the 2 dots. Honda / Acura cars are checked cold engine off. If you check with engine running you will find no fluid on the dipstick so maybe previous over overfilled it.
