My trans wont shift out of first

i have been losing my mind about this all day. I was driving this morning for about 30 minutes around town, all was fine in D5. the light went green and the car stayed in first gear. i put it into SS it said 1, pushing up and down, nothing, gate shifted down to D1 then back up to D5, nothing, sitting high rpm. pulled over and turned it off then back on. and it would go through all of the gears really high, to 4-5k, then shift. no slipping at all, just high rpm hard shifting. slowly went home and parked it. my scanner says, no system errors, no running codes, no pending codes. NOTHING! ive been on here all day, shitting a kitten in research. only thing i can come close to in searching is TPS. anything anyone??? PLEASE???

i am no expert but sounds like electronic... personally do not think is the actual tranny itself... there are some sensors in tranny that controll shifting (sends signal to ecu and back)... i know they are sometimes replaced... sorry for my rookie opinion (trying to help back, always get great help here)

update, i drove it today and it shifts by itself at 3,500 RPM with a massive bang. if i put it in SS mode, it still waits until 3500rpm to shift to 2nd, then i can shift it myself in SS up and down the gears. also still accompanied by an extremely hard shift. still no transmission codes....

Yeah, your tranny is definatly going out.

Sorry to hear about that. Too many 1/4's

If it gets worse, you can probably get a rebuilt one for $1900

I have been here a while on AZ and I am on my 3rd tranny, with 153k on the chassis but thats never been a problem of mine... in fact I have not heard of the "bang" youre speaking of either... before it goes BANG again for good, I would get someone to look at it... i hate to tell you that, but I dont know of anything else you can do at this point... maybe some of the mechanic heavy duty folks here has an option????

When I had that same symptom is was due to a faulty throttle position sensor (TPS) HOWEVER I did have a CEL (I believe it was P0121).

And you're not throwing a CEL? I find that strange.

thing is that it is not slipping... tranny has sensors that control shifting... once i had a similar problem but with different car; back then it was the passing gear cable that goes to tranny, had snaped and kept in a "pull" position. Anyhow: the tranny posted by streetKA looks very good

it doenst have to slip to be gone. the fact that its banging gears shows that it has issues.

FIXED!!!!
car needed a new TPS sensor. excessive research, and talking to E30 and Paul led me to the TPS being a 20% possibility. didnt throw any kind of code until i unplugged the harness and re-connected it. got one off ebay, $30 shipped, then adjusted it with a voltmeter. 0.5v to 4.5v . car shifts like a champ and goes through every gear. im going to do another trans flush and filter as soon as the filter comes in from acura. almost cried when it hit me that i didnt need to blow 1k and a day on a trans swap

As close to .5v as you can get it at closed throttle and IIRC 4.5v at WOT.

Having same issues with 2001 cl-s But all guages, windows, wipers work, lights work but reverse lights dont. I sometimes cant get it out of park and then it wont go out of first. I like the TPS for the trans problem but that wouldn't make the guages go out would it. This all started last night. help!!!

My tranny (01 CL-S) popped about 4 years ago and had to replace it (thank fully under warranty) but it JUST started to get glitchy again! I'll keep in mind the TPS...hopefully I won't need to blow 6k (yes...$6000 here in Canada to get a remade tranny...)

I'm researching on how (and how difficult it is) to do an engine swap with the 08 TL-S with manual.

Auto trannies are too fussy!
