Grinding sound when in motion...

Hey guys, I have a 2001 3.2 CL Type-S and when the car is in motion I hear a grinding sound coming from under the hood on the driver's side. Its loud when I'm moving slow (1-10mph) and when I speed up, its not there. Also I put my car in Neutral and rolled down a hill and the sound was still there. My guess is it needs a new rotor but I'm not 100% sure. Does anybody know what this can be? Any information at all will be much appreciated.

Did you check your brake pads?

no but I will asap...thanks. but could this be the reason for the sound coming from under the hood? I heard what worn brake pads sound like and this sounds nothing like that. I'll check it though...

if you think about your rotors, check your pads first , I mean take your caliper down and check your rear pad too. If you get all the way to the metal it will give you nice grinding noise

my brake pads need to be changed but that doesn't explain the grinding sound from under the hood...is it possible it may be the Transmission?? or maybe the thing that connects from the transmission to the wheel? whats your take on this?

Axle?

If you go under the car you'll see it. There are two rubber boots on each end of it. Check if they are ripped. Grab the axle and try to move it around. If it moves, then replace it. You can get a new one for cheap at Auto Zone or Napa.

Since you say that you had that grind in neutral , rolling down the hill, I would say it is not your transmission, axle grinds usually apear while accelarating + turning , unless everything inside cv axle is about to fall apart - you may get some grind or rather - rattle. Maybe you got your rotor splash shield bent - check that. Realy, there is not much I can think of, that can grind on drivers side, while rolling freely
