Going to attempt to do my breaks on '01 CL-S.

I have a 2001 CL-S that I'd like to change the brakes on. Before I attempt it, I figured I'd ask and see how do-able it is. So here are my main questions...

- Can this be done with basic tools or do I need something special?
- If I need to turn my rotors can this be done off the vehicle in a regular autoshop? (My local acura dealer wont do it)
- What is the service limit on the rotors? Mine are at 28mm.
- If I have to buy rotors is there anywhere online that I can purchase genuine acura rotors at a better price than my dealer?

Many thanks!

just need basic tools: breaker bar, assortment of metric sockets (forgot what size the caliper bolt is but its in the 20s) is what you really need. Oh a torque wrench for putting the lugs back on.

If you need to get the rotors turned, call around. I know my local pepboys and kragens/CSK will do them.

As for replacements, dont get acura rotors. they flat out suck, they warp too much/quickly especially when the dealer is going to charge you an arm and a leg.
I basically see it as you have 2 options. Use the money you were going to spend on a nice set of aftermarket slotted rotors from the internet. Some will recommend EBC rotors, I've heard they dont warp. Or pocket a lot of your money and get some basic rotors from your local parts store. I went this route. I have a 2 year warranty against warping and after a couple of turns, I wont gripe about tossing them since I didnt spend too much.

I found that some of the replacement rotors are very soft, but some suppliers carry "Made in USA" stuff that is better quality. Cheapest may not be the best deal. Joe

Brake job

Rotors for front can be had for $50 each with a 2yr warranty from your local large autoparts chain.
Skip the turning and buy new ones. Make sure to clean them before install.
You may need a hand impact tool to loosen the rotor screws.
Also may need a caliper retracting tool.
Both tools are less than $10.
Easy job if you take your time.
Remember to use jack stands!
If you have a 6sp, good time to adjust parking brake.

cheapest rotors on these cars are only good as "disposable" rotors. If they're gonna warp, might as well buy the cheapest stuff.

Good time for everyone to adjust their parking brakes. I need to adjust mine. Also dont forget to change your fluid if its been a few years.
