Flush or Drain?

Okay, I consider Firestone to be okay for basic shit like tires or an air filter change but when it comes to anything else I tell em' to back off. I went to two different Firestone locations where both told me my transmission fluid was dirty and the tranny needed to be flushed.

Oh hell no. I grinned, walked away and took my car to my tried and true mom and pop Acura specialists. About an hour after I left the car there to have the transmission flushed my buddy calls me from the shop and says: "Why are you having your transmission flushed?" She says. "Is it having a lot of trouble shifting?" She says. "Nope." I said. I told her two different Firestone shops say the transmission needed to be flushed.

She said if I had had the transmission flushed it would have shocked the whole system. So she had the tranny drained and refilled three times until it flowed clean. I could tell the difference immediately after I left the car parked overnight and drove it the next day. The auto tranny shifted really smooth and clean. It didn't even do that when I first purchased the car!

why would a flush shock the trans? doesn't make sense. drain and fill 3 times changes maybe 90% of the old fluid. so your mechanic is telling you that all new fluid is bad for the transmission. i don't get it.

They did perfect work on my previous Acura and they do excellent work on my current Acura for less than they charge at the dealership. The dudes at the dealership have their heads stuck up their asses half of the time and give me a clueless look half the time when I need something diagnosed on the spot. It's like the people at my shop sleep with Acuras. They know exactly what's going on just from the description and have you in and out in two to three hours max.

With all the hell these people have gone through with their trannies and I haven't had an ounce of trouble with mine I felt it was best to follow her advice. Nobody else would have called me up and advised me against a complete flush. You go to a garage and 99% of the time they do exactly what you tell them to do without question, which usually turns out to be a shit job later.

we have owned 3 cars with auto j series motors, and all three have had tranny problems within 1 month after we flushed/drained the fluid.
