I have a 01 Cls auto and some of you may have taken note of my issues with what appears to be heat soak and hard starting after a few stops around town.
I have noted that since these issues have come to the forefront that the fan turns on AFTER I shut the car off. If I turn the key to the point where the guages fire up or start the car the fan goes off.
Any suggestions??

The fan never kicked in like this before and especially after a trip to the grocery store and back....Originally Posted by Zippee
Sounds normal to me, the fan should come on until the car cools down.

Sounds to me like the car is running hot causing the fan to come on where it hasn't before...the fan running is a symptom, not the problem.

Not once has the fan been on while my car was off. Ever. Either your low on coolant & the car is running thefan to cool down after it's off, or you have a bad fan, or fan switch.

That's why I think it's heat soaking, not a fan malfunction. My first guess is air in the system or a funky thermostat.Originally Posted by Oakroadsteve

Yes I should have the thermostat checked....It seems to run hotter when sitting in traffic....Originally Posted by Zippee

as others have said, it can happen, and is not out of the ordinary, it is part of the programming to allow it to run after the car has been shut off (why do you think on quite a few cars, it has a sticker that "caution: fans may start at any time"
but yes i have only seen my TL, do it a couple of times, and even then i had just driven it hard, so it never had time to really cool down, so they kicked on when the key was turned off
and as others have kinda said, there previous honda's did it alot more; same here here with my old 94 accord

Guess my CL's are special. Never happened to me. Then again I do have the cooling mods. Lower temp TS, fan switch, rad pressure cap & use water wetter, & 75% water mix.

My radiator fans have never come on after shut down. I employ all of the above as well, except for the rad pressure cap, in addition to the S/C'er, which makes my CL cook in stop-&-go traffic with the A/C on. It may help that I have an aluminum radiator though.Originally Posted by fuzzy02CLS
