engine light on and need some advice.

Hello everyone,

I am moving to Seattle from Winnipeg and my CL (2002 type S) has the engine light on. Just before the light was on, the car downshifted without a warning. This had happened a few times in the past (a few times a year). About 4 months ago, the engine light was on and I took it to a local dealer. They couldn't find any problem with the transmission. Now, I am in Calgary. I made a service appointment with an Acura dealer in Vancouver which is about 700 miles. Ideally, I would like to have it examined here in Calgary, but given the time constraint, I won't able to do so. Any suggestions?

i would make time and see the dealer in town before your trip, you dont want to break down in transit. that in it self is a whole nother pain in the ass.

down shift by it self sounds like the trans is going into limp mode so it goes into 2nd gear and stays in second gear. had it happen to my 3 times in my tl when the trans was bad. both times on the highway doing 70-80mph. feels like u hit a brick wall, brakes engage and no abs help, its a scary feeling. take it to the dealer for the engine light and tell them to test drive the car for the trans issue
