Crankshaft position sensor!

Crankshaft position sensor!
I have an 03 CL Type S 6-speed MT. Make a long story short yesterday I heard a loud ticking noise that sounded like valves but it wasn't coming from the engine. After driving it for 10 more minutes the ticking went away and all of a sudden I couldn't bring my RPM's past 2k, and now this morning it wont start at all. On my OBD2 scanner the code is "P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor A circuit Range/Performance." So I know its a crankshaft Position Sensor but which one? Isn't there one by the flywheel and one by the timing belt? When I heard the ticking it sounded like it was coming from under the starter somewhere which I'm assuming it was the Crank Position Sensor by the flywheel. I just don't want to replace one and be wrong. Also, the one by the timing belt isn't it located behind the Crank Pulley? Which means pulling the Crank Pulley off to replace it. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

According to the Helms manual, the CKP sensor located at the transmission side of the engine is CKP sensor 'B'. This was found within the 'Manual Transmission' section of the manual, specifically on page 13-12 within the "Transmission Removal" sub-section.
Step 12 of that sub-section states to "Disconnect the CKP sensor B connector, then remove the CKP sensor B, and the ground cable." as part of the trans. removal procedure.
Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that your "P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor A circuit Range/Performance" code is the CKP sensor located BEHIND the crank pulley.

lol, that's where I would start if that code presented itself.
As you may know, just make sure you purchase the sensor for the 6-speed, because the one for the automatic has a different part #. It would be a real bad day to get the crank pulley off and find that an error was made with the part number.
Good Luck!

Wow, thank you! And I am assuming those are for the 6-speed manual transmission. Not sure why they are that cheap, if you call any auto parts store they are close to $400, but not complaining!

Now, I want to ask just in case anyone knows, but before my car only would rev up to 2000 rpms and now won't start there was a loud ticking noise coming from the engine somewhere. I'm assuming it was the crankshaft position sensor going bad, but would the one by the crank pulley make that noise or the one by the flywheel? Anyone has had this experience? Because to me it sounded like it was coming from the tranny somewhere assuming the crank sensor by the flywheel. I don't know if those sensors make a ticking noise right before they fail.
