Clunking at low speed

Getting a clunk when talking off in 1st gear. Not the mounts, not the steering, not the axles.

What in the front suspension can I look at to see if it's worn. Like bushings, ball joints, control arms, end links etc. And how do I check these?

check for play. Yank the lower control arm, the front sway and see if it clunks or if it moves. I think you check it when the car is jacked up. Also I had a cluck before and it turned out that one of the bolts holding down my front sway fell off.

might be ball joints (my front upper is busted and clunks when taking off).

lift the front of the car, grab the wheel at the top and bottom and push/pull respectively. you can see whether the ball joint is out of the socket, and/or hear it. there shouldn't be more than 3mm of play if they are good

Ok well, Everyone is stumped.
The ball joints look ok, there is no play in anything
The mounts are good, trans & motor
The sways are ok, nothing is loose
The axles appear to be ok. There is no unusual play, no ripped boots
The brakes & wheel bearings are ok, no play & nothing loose.
The shocks(Tokico HP) appear to have busted bump stops. The rubber is all ripped apart. When the car is jacked up & the suspension is hanging I can see it.
A Honda shop & my regular shop have no definite idea where this clunk is coming from. They think it's either the shocks(because of the ripped rubber), or the axle(something inside the boots worn that we can't see) It's only coming from the drivers side.
I'm not sure it's the shocks though. I get no noises going over bumps & my tire wear is normal.
A note.. sometimes I do get some vibrations while accelerating hard. I feel the car shake & then is goes away.
Any input would be welcome.

My first set of Tokico Blues had the original OEM bumpstops up to about 115K. When I ordered my second set, I noticed the OEM bumpstops had split and deteriorated. Moreover, I noticed that the spring silencer tubes had practically disappeared. There were only pieces of dry rotted rubber left stuck to the odd place on the spring. So, that may be a good place to start in fixing your clunk. Although, I did not have a 'clunking' sound, it was more of a 'clanking' metal on metal. I replaced the bumpstops with OEM and upgraded to the strut mounting rubber mentioned on the thread below while I was there.

I also replaced the spring silencer tubes and that cured the 'clanking'.

This may be due to an inner CV Joint on the drivers side. Don't tell me they were China knockoffs?

Good Luck!

2 of part #17, one for each shock/strut.

If you want to replace #7; RUBBER, SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNTING (SHOWA)with OEM CL-S parts, then YES. You will need four, two for each side.

If you want to upgrade to 08 TL Type-S SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNTING RUBBER, then you'll need four part # 51631-SEP-A01. They are pricey, $15.47 each. Plug the part #, with the dashs, into the part # field at the top of the website, it should come up.

In addition, since the car has 100K+ on the clock, you may want to replace #11; RUBBER, FR. SPRING MOUNTING. Mine were pretty crushed; however, the added weight of the blower and going over alot of Condo lot speed bumps probably F'd mine sooner rather then later. You'll need two.

As you well know, when miles get over 100K, depending on your long term plans for keeping the car, shit starts to fail and needs replacement to maintain the CL-S luxury. hehe

Have you checked the radius rod bushing? If there are worn and if there's any play, the rod is going to want to move forward and aft. You'll probably only feel or hear it under accelerating or braking. Take the splash shield off and check the bushings for cracks.
