Clunk/click sound

I have been hearing a clunk / clicking type sound coming from the front right suspension when I first move a few yard after the car has been in park. Any ideas what the noise could be?

Same here, just started recently, I haven't had time to thoroughly look at it yet.

I have a new rear OEM mount, the side mount & front were in decent used condition as of two weeks ago.

Yes I finally, finally! After over a year of serious creaking, I have narrowed the source of the noise down to 2 areas. I will post pics tomorrow maybe. I need help identifiying the part since i cant seem to find it in the parts diagrams.

does it sound like a pingpong ball being hit with a metal paddle?? I know that sounds weird but I may be experiencing the same problem. Does it happen between shifts as you accelerate or decelerate? Have you changed to aftermarket brakes recently? Tell me more!

It usually happens after I start moving forward. Its almost like that same sound you would hear if you were making a turn with bad axles. But my noise usually happens on some occasions when Im pulling off straight. Thanks for any input you may have!

Thats the RT rear portion of the subframe and the sway bar is bolted under that.

has your car been hit in the front before?

yup, thats exactly my problem too.... and yes i had a minor accident before on the side, but only thing damage was the lower control arm and i replaced it.

same problem as my post?

problem 1: when wheel turned all the way 1 way, right when i start turning opposite it will pop. hard turn while driving it will pop. sometimes i think when i go over bumps. its right side front

problem 2: creaking noise like in scary moves except more metalicy (yeah i know funny). sometimes i little creak when hard accelerate or hard stop, esp over driveway since the suspension flexes a lot. speed bumps, etc

related?

YES!!! I know the noise you speak of. Same exact thing happens to mine, pings on the initial roll. And yeah, it does sound like a bad axle.

hmm?? how did i know??
well im guessing its the same problem. you might have shifted your subframe. the part in my pic, thats covered with grease, holds the subframe to the actual frame of the car. there are bushings between the frame and subframe so that when the subframe moves slightly, the vibration is absorbed. if your car has been in a accident and the subframe was shifted, then this puts extra pressure on the bushing causing it to wear out faster.
1. try to narrow the location of the noise. since you know its on the right, then do the right only.
2. go to walmart and buy a can of "white lithium grease".
3. spray the same part i sprayed, get some in the cracks ect.
4. see if the noise went away. if it does then you have found your problem.
5. instead of replacing it right away, just see if you can tighten it. it may have come loose.
im on step 5 now. im waiting for the creaking to come back before i tighten it so i know that it was because its loose and therefore it made the sound. the spray has quieted it now. if tightening it wont work, then buy the part and replace. I have pointed out the part for you in the diagram, its number 7 and you can order it. If you want, i can get you the part number.

also, im starting to develop a click/clunk on the LEFT side now. im thinking its a motor or tranny mount cause it only happens on take offs and my hard 2-3 shift.

Nice! I will perhaps clink and clunk my way to Walmart and try this today. Has anyone else followed up on this advice? If so, whats the word?

Well this is a very uncommon problem. the subframe bushing has to wear out faster and that is usually only caused by a shifting of the subframe from a accident. if you didint hit your car then it should be ok. and its not as much as a clink and clunk but creaking and clicking. so i dont think my advice will help.
but try inspecting other parts like ball joint, tie ends, endlinks, even motor or tranny mounts, which is what i suspect is wrong with my car now. its develpoed a clunk or click on acceleration and my hard 2-3 shift. so it make sense that it would be a mount since the tranny/engine would move under those conditions.

Same problem with my car... Right side, I have taken it to a shop mechanic and I have taken it to sears and neither of them can find any problems with the car when they look underneth it.

I actually get under the car with them and look at the suspension and can see nothing physically wrong.

My car drives perfectly normal and handles the same but it just makes a loud metal clunk sound when hitting certain bumps and turning my wheel.

Its strange.

Yes, I would say 99% of the time it is still safe to drive your car. In my experience with many cars it sounds like this is a result of slack or wear in a part of the suspension or a loose bolt b/t a subframe to a frame rail. Exactly what these guys are saying. Even if one of these subframe bolts were to come out its not like the engine or trans would just drop out. If it did come substantially loose you would hear and know something was getting worse (louder clu-klunk). Best thing to do before you automatically assume its a subframe mount that is worn or loose is to go over all the suspension links with a crow bar to check for slack. Dont do it by hand b/c your muscles will not always catch the play that may only be realized with high force like a ton of force changing direction. Good luck to you all.

I did put a crow bar under my tire while it was jacked up off the ground. When I lifted up on it I noticed the lower ball joint expand a few millimeters. Not sure if that much play is normal.

Well a few mm's arent going to make this sound we are talking about. There really shouldnt be any play at all. Acura's are notorious for going through ball joints though. When it REALLY needs to be changed is when you can grab the tire at 3 and 9, tug back and forth and feel the play. With the car off the ground mind you.

back from the dead, but it might be because the spring is rubbing up against the sleeve if you have coilovers.

sway link or upper ball joint, when u raise ur car, budge the upper control arm, u'll notice a light clicking because you dont have 2000lbs of pressure on it, so its a light click, but check your upper ball joint!
