fan turns on when the car is off

Hello

The fan in my car turns on whenever i turn the car off and it turns off by itself after a little bit. Does anyone know whats causing this and how to deal with it? Could it be something major?

My guess would be that you're running a little hot. What does the temp gauge show before you shutdown the motor? Being in houston, I doubt you're running too rich of an antifreeze mix, but how long since you flushed the cooling system? Maybe coolant level is low?

Things to check quickly anyway. Thermostat might be failing...

not sure if this applies to you. but in my 2.5 tl my fan does this also. its a feature that helps prevent heat soak and BHG

^I Agree.

There is a warning saying that the fan comes on without warning even when the engine is off.

Damn. I'm not trying to be facetious or anything but what planet is the originator of this thread on? As far as I know, every foreign car has had this function of the fan coming on when the car is off since--what--the early 80's? I mean, sure, the car may be running hot--maybe even the thermostat could be malfunctioning a little. But the point is the car is already equipped to compensate ergo the fan coming on even when the engine is off.

They don't even put warning labels on radiator fans anymore but here's what one looks like.

I've had a 99TL, an 01CL, and an 03CL. My folks have an 01 Accord, an 06 Pilot, and an 07 Ridgeline. NONE of them do this, and we live in 95-100 degrees with 100% humidity from June through September. IMO If it's kicking on - somethings too hot.

something is too hot if it turns on intermittenly after the car is off. it is normal for the fans to turn stay on for a bit after the car turns off.

if its going on and off; you need a coolant flush, if that doesnt work then i would check the thermostat and then finally the radiator

Your 03 CL 6 Speed shouldn't be doing it.

Sometimes, only on really hot days. My brothers brand new Accord does it too.

I've had a few cars with electronic fans, and they kicked on when it was super hot (like 95+, high humidity, and AC full blast).

A honda family like mine

After consulting with my dad ( no master tech but he's good with a wrench) he assured me that some of his previous Hondas did this and it WAS NORMAL.

My dads previous Hondas:

93 Accord 10th Anniversary - New
94 Accord
96 Accord
98 Accord EX V6 - New
06 Ridgeline - New

My Acuras:

96 Integra GSR
03 CL-S

My brothers Hondas:

03 Accord EX V6

So there seems to be different ideas.

Its normal, especially after a long drive in warm weather. However, if its REALLY bothering you, or if its excesive, have it checked out.

I know it's common on cars for this to happen, I just don't think I've ever had it happen on any of mine. Even on the S, which is far from stock and driven VERY hard.

On a CLS this is NOT NORMAL. You either have a bad fan, fan sensor, air in the cooling system, or low coolant.
