Bad Coolant temp sensor?

Hey everyone, I know it's rude to just post without saying Hi, but I couldn't find a intro section so forgive me.

I just bought a 01 Cl-S recently and I am in love with this car. I knew all about the tranny issue but after running a car fax on this car and taking it to a mechanic I felt safe buying it. The tranny was recalled and replaced with a new tranny and the oil jet kit installed at 24k, it's now at 74k. It shifts like butter unless i'm getting on it.

Today I noticed after being stuck in traffic for about 7 minutes that my thermostat was all the way to the red(I live in southern AZ so it's in the 70's right now.) I turned on the A/C and it dropped immediately.

I'm thinking it's the coolant temp sensor for a few reasons.

1. if it was the thermostat it'd either take forever to heat up or overheat really fast.

2. If it was a fan issue, then the radiator fan wouldn't come on when i turned on the a/c.

please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

So, my question after that long winded post is this..

Where can I find the sensor on this car? I've been looking for manuals online but I can't seem to find one, I'll go buy a haynes tomorrow if needed.

Also, any other thoughts as to what this issue could be would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking time to read this and for whatever advice you guys can give me.

If you can, get a helms manual. It is the most complete manual for your Acura. Check it out online.

Ac fan and radiator cooling fan work independently. In addition water temperature sensor works only with your dashboard gauge and does not trigger your cooling fan to turn on. What you have broken is a fan switch located on the bottom of the radiator

Thanks for the replies, I replaced the temp sensor and did a coolant flush and everything seems to be running fine. I will check the fan switch and see if that needs to be replaced too.
