100K Service Questions - Please help a poor man

This is what I have:
'02 CL-S with 94K miles
Driven mostly in Chicago until last year when I bought it and brought it to Houston. So the belts and engine have some rust-ish look.

QUESTIONS
1.- My dealer is asking $858 to do all the work. Is this a fair price and would you take to the dealer or use a low labor shop with aftermarket? Is it worth it?

2.- Would you change the motor mounts at 94K?

1) do not take your car to a dealer!!!! Find a local shop that can work on your car and save $$$
2) Timing belt, water pump, etc. Do a search and there is a list of parts you need. Go to www.acuraautomotiveparts.org and order them from there to save some more $$$
3) If the motor mounts are original, they are more than likely shot. Replace them.

How do I figure out all the parts that I need to replace on the 100K service? Is there a list?

yeah there is a list, also known as a tune up. i guess search for the list online or call in the acura dealer. I'm only 19 and i just learn by what i experienced or seen. Most of the things they charge for is labor so if you're a handy man you could save yourself a couple hundred. Most maintenance for your car you could do yourself, it just depends if you have the time or not and lets not forget money lol.
I'd say if you could and know what you're doing, take your time and repair your car to save yourself some cash. compare the price of parts and the price of parts plus service, you'll see the difference.

Most things to look for:
- cracks on the belts
- motor mounts (bushings or rubber) change it if you feel the motor jerking while driving
- flush the radiator if you haven't
- they also recommend flushing the power steering and brake fluid if discolored, but all i do is just check the levels and refill. In the manual it says to change it every 3 years.
- change the spark plugs (Spark plugs and coil ignitions could cause the motor to backfire/jerk, you could tell when it's backfiring when you're applying the gas)
- coil ignitions (mainly the wires for insulation)
- fuel filter
- pcv valve (usually clogs up and causes bad fuel mileage)
- oxygen sensor
- valve cover gasket (for oil leaks, rarely seen on hondas)

I never had the chance to swap out a fuel filter on any car i had so i have no idea when to change it.

For the oxygen sensor, i changed once and I just waited til I received a check engine light. There is a way to check it, but i don't remember right now. Most of these things you could look up on google to see what they are, how they function, and tell whether they are bad or not.

correct me if i'm wrong please... i think i'm leaving something out. I hope this helps you a bit! if you have anymore questions just post, people will answer by the next day or less. Let me know how the results end up!

I used to own a '01 CL-S. I'd have to say it was fun to drive!

Thank you! Very helpful. Now all I need is to understand why NSXNEXT said so adamantly to stay away from the dealer? Any more feedback is apprecated.

Thanks guys!

i'm sure its because cause the dealer is expensive, their labor rates are crazy.

$858 from the dealer to do all the work including parts is not bad (for a dealer).

But independent shops are usually in the $500 range. Use OEM Honda parts, and buy them yourself if you need to.

Thanks... I got some numbers from some folks here. I think I MIGHT do at the dealer if I decide to keep my car for a long time? Does that make sense???

From: The grande.. Riverdale NJ.. Hopefully moving to skyline village in Lincoln park NJ..yes dirty jersey
$858 is not bad at all for a dlr, at least u know they will use the right parts.
I got mine done at a local OK mechanic for $700 for water pump and timming belt, they flush the coolant also for this job and my mechanic used the cheap Green stuff not the honda stuff that is blue... I really dont think it made i difference cuz its been like 3-4 years and 60k miles since it was changed..
Im just saying for a extra $150 i would have took it to a DLR do it but the dlrs in my area wanted $1200
