02 Acura CL-S. Won't start. Completely dead. HELP!

1. Did not disconnect battery.

2. Tried to remove the black plastic knob on alternator to access header nut.

3. As soon as ratchet hits the metal stick/nut sparks start flying. I move my hand and the ratchet sits there stuck.

4. I hit it off with hammer.

5. I disconnect battery.

6. I reinstall everything. Try to start and nothing happens.

7. Take out alternator to be tested by Autozone. It's good.

8. Take out battery to be tested by Autozone. It's good.

9. Take out main battery fuse (fusible link?) and it 'looks' blown. No little metal piece between the two connecter things inside.

10. Cannot find 120 AMP fusible link at any auto parts store.

11. I cannot quite figure out what the fusible link is. Is it just the main battery fuse? I look on google at fusible links and there are all sorts of them. Some are wires, some are the whole fuse box, and some are the fuse only. So are they different for each car? On the Acura's is it just the main battery fuse? Or are there other fuses or fuse box that have blown? I haven't checked other fuses as started to rain heavily.

12. What other problems am I looking at? What should I be looking at?

13. Please help. I have no other car to get to work.

Plan of action is to go to junkyard tomorrow to look for a fusible link/battery fuse. I don't know if it's going to start. Please let me know in advance what I should prepare for as well.

Thanks.

You do I hope realize that you should have disconnected the battery first?

Yeah. I realized I should have after the fact.

I was able to fix it. I will post the solution for other poor souls who run into this problem.

The fusible link may be located in various parts depending on make, model, and year. Some are located within the wire itself that runs off the alternator to the fuse box (under the hood). Most cars will usually have a fusible link that is located in the fuse box itself. That is the case for the 3.2CL-S. If you follow the wire from the alternator it will lead you to the rear off the hood/the firewall that's directly in-front on the passenger side. You will see it's connected to the fuse box that's located there.

Open the fuse box and there you will find the fusible link. It's 120 AMPS and is removed by unscrewing two phillips head screws. It is labeled on the fuse box as the main battery fuse. Just a heads up that no local autoparts store carries a 120AMP fusible link. You have to order through an Acura or Honda dealer. They cost less than $20 bucks. Do not order online through other websites. You will likely be sent an 80AMP fusible link.

Simply drop in the new fuse and everything should be fine. Besides your radio to which there are many solutions you will find with simple searches.

This is intended for people who search on google.com for solutions. I'm sure they'll come across this thread.
