01 CL-S engine cuts out while driving at 5000rpm
Hey everyone. im new to acuras and also new to this page and everything i have googled has brought me to this site and i see you guys know alot.
So i just purchased a 01 Acura CL-S automatic with a 105k miles black on black. it runs great shifts smooth no surgung or anything until i jump on it and it kicks down a gear or two and gets to 5000 RPM and then it starts to rev like a civic reving on his rev limiter. and it also wont shift until i let up off the throttle. it does it all gears i noticed (well besides fourth and fifth i havent gone that fast yet) it doesnt rev up like its slipping it just stays at around 5000-5500
i have no CEL light on and no codes pending that my scanner showed. no lights on on the dash. i did notice that the traction control light flashes when this happens and then goes off.
Also my cruise doesnt work??
The only thing that makes sense to me is if for some reason it thinks it is in neutrual or park and it wont let it pass the rev limiter??
thanks in advance for any help.

IDK if this is it, but for cruise control to work, the button left of the steering wheel on the dash needs to be pressed with a green light on it indicating that you can use CC.
My VSA was disabled when I bought the car so I don't know much about it. You should read the FAQ section on VSA and this might give you an answer.

The light on the CC button lights up but I get nothing on the dash? I know this would happen to of the computer doesn't think it's in drive. Or am I wrong?
I will look up on that. Thanks.

This is happening to my 6MT as well. The fuel cutoff is at 5 rpm and there is a significant power loss after 3 rpm and you can hear that vtec groan kick in at 3.
Someone help us please.

I took the car to the transmission shop and the guy test drove the car and said its not the transmission. He said possibly the rev limiter is bad? Is the limiter in the ECM or??
This car runs and shifts perfect. It only acts up when trying to drive faster then 5000 rpm in all gears. Then it feels like when u rev it in park and it bounces rpm at 5k rpm ???

The engine is in safe mode for a reason, to prevent damage to the engine.
