CLS Front Bumper Removal DIY

Step 1
Open hood. You will see the black plastic cover around the top of the bumper

There are 8 clips you need to remove on this cover.
Once removed you can pull the black plastic cover off

Step 2
You will see 3 phillips head screws. These can be hard to remove without stripping them. I used an impact screwdriver & that broke them loose.

Step 3
There’s a screw at the corner of the bumper at the wheel well.
Remove this. You may need to move the wheels left or right to get the screw out. Repeat for the other side. Blurry I know but you can see it.

Step 4
There’s a 10mm bolt under the back edge of the bumper near the wheel well. Remove this, & repeat on the other side.

Step 5
There are 4 clips along the underside of the bumper. Remove these

Step 6
Pull the sides of the bumper out, & push down & pull the entire bumper. It should slide off. I had to finesse the bumper off. It was stuck on there

Reverse to install.
I never removed my bumper before & it took me about 10 minutes. So anyone can do it if they need to. There’s not much involved as you can see.
To get the clips off use a flathead screwdriver.
If you break a clip or 2 it’s not a big deal. Acura dealers should stock the parts, & they are less then $1.
When putting the bumper back on, the sides may be tricky to get in. They were for me. And BE CARFULL not to scratch the bumper, or nick it, or drop it.

NOTE: If you have stock road lamps you will have to remove them. The 03 has inserts & do not need to be removed.

I see the pixs fine. Thanks for the great DIY, I may be putting it to use in the near future.

Clips are around $1 (@ my local honda) for those who break them (like me).
Damn pop-screws.

Fuzzy!! It's funny that you posted this last night. By the time you posted, I had already taken off the bumper and put it back on. I used Soopa's instructions from '02. I was trying to switch out my '01 for '03 headlights and hit a snag and ran out of daylight. By the time I finally get them installed, I'll be a pro at bumper removal.

It's scheduled to be added as soon as one of the mods (probably me) does the next round of updates. We've got a lot of stuff that needs to be added (see the "know it all" sticky for details)..

Moving this to the FAQ forum...

Great post - Thanks - this was exactly what I needed.

I just finished replacing a balast control so of course I had to take the bumper off.

A few comments for anyone else considering taking the bumper off themselves:

Total work time for me was about 2 hours but I went pretty slow and I don't do this type of stuff very often.

I didn't need any power tools, the three tough screws on the top of the bumper were tight but I had no problems with a descent philips head screwdriver.

The bumper takes a bit of work coming off and going on so you might want plan on a little extra time unless you're experienced at taking off body panels.

The whole process isn't technically difficult at all ... and for anyone that's curious....once the bumper is off swapping the balast was easy (10-15 minutes if you're slow)

This is what I needed! Took me a half hour to find someone who would post pics with this. Everyone just explains it but doesn't show the pics.

Any chance of hosting the pictures again? Seems photohost.org no longer exists.
