6-speed tranny seal leaking?

Hey guys...

I have a '03 cl-s 6-speed(45K miles) and just noticed that there is a leak around the trans to motor interface. Is there a TSB out for this sealing issue? The leak is on the drivers side directly under the car. Not leaking yet but saturated with oil.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it's a rear main seal, I think this has happened before but I don't think there is a TSB. On an '03 it should be warranty.

I thought there was a TSB (an old one - pre MY2003) on all Honda J blocks for a leaking rear main seal.

found it --> TSB 01-041 all Honda V6 engine oil leak main seal

Thanks... I've scheduled a 30k service for next week so I'll mention this TSB to see what the dealer says.

I had the same problem after a 30K service, which included change of the transmission fluid. Turned out the dealer overfilled the transmission by about 8 oz. I drained off the excess fluid from the overflow hole (the only way to set the proper level!) and cleaned the oil out from the inspection plate opening and outer housing. The transmission oil seepage has not reappeared in over 15K miles now - It's dry as a bone! Apparently there is a vent in the transmission case that spews oil into the clutch housing if its overfilled.

Very interesting, can anyone scan the Helms manual on how to drain excess tranny fluid in the 6MT?

There is also a seal in the return vent that can go bad. I thought it was a rear main seal leak, turns out it was this seal in the return vent that went bad.

I got a new clutch and flywheel because of it.

Can anyone post pics of the overflow hole? I think I over did mine.

Just had mine at the dealer, 50k and they said the leak was the input shaft seal on the transmission. they replaced it and the front engine mount under warranty for me, they didn't replace the clutch or flywheel though, they said there was no evidence of any fluid getting on the clutch disc itself, just inside the the bell housing.

mine is starting to leak right after the dealer replace the main seal about 2 years ago my warranty is out...I guess I just have to wait until I get a new clutch before fixing the seal again.....
