they mentioned the part about paying for their own ride, but didn't mention the part where they rely on their parents on everything else (ie. shelter, food, education...etc) =P

i dont see anything wrong with that. i think its quite an accomplishment to have payed cash for my car when i get it at 18. even if thats all i have payed for. as long as you appreciate what your parents do for you and you arent cocky about it then its all good.

i worked at Panera Bread for about a year (bad decision)
and then i lifeguarded from may until september at a county lake that payed pretty handsomely
i guess my parents thought that the car was an "investment in my future" as i no longer needed to depend on them for rides to work school or swim team at 5AM
i still have a ways to go paying for it, but i hope to be finished by next year.

I agree... and I wouldn't be spouting off about it.. most of us have to buy our own cars. My dad's idea of generosity before I left home was selling me a $4500 car for $2000

i paid for my first car when i was 18, the only times i didnt pay for a car was the 3rd time, bcoz i needed it a car asap and my mother paid for my accord, then i sold it and gave back the money to her. after i saved more money bought another car on my own. then just recently, my girl bought me a cl . she wanted to buy me a z4 but i told her no. so she bought me this and a rc ferrari. bcoz she said she cant afford to buy me the real one and this is the closest she can get one for me. and then we broke up and few mos after i crashed the cl in an accident and she paid half of it to get it fixed. then i sold it and bought the cl type s. and paid her back for the cl she bought me, bcoz i couldnt have her pay for things for me. we use to argue about that. i dont like ppl paying for my stuff even my parents. but i dont like to argue w/ them.

I was 20 when I purchased my '01 SMR CL-S. I'm paying for it myself, even though I wish she were paid off. Something urks me that I'm paying for a car with almost 100,000 miles.

My first car (Sporty Accordy), my parents paid for 3/4 of it, which I was greatful of, and still am.

I'm 18 and just bought 2003 Cl Type-S a few days before New Years. I sold my 85 Supra though which was a very sad time but this car should be worth it.

You're not alone. My first car was a 1972 yellow Buick Skylark with less miles on it than the CL-S I bought a few months ago. That should show some age right there. I bought it from the original owner (70 year old lady) for $2500. I miss "The Bitch". I miss my youth.

I was talking about the car. The old lady wasn't my type. I don't miss her. She wouldn't let me test drive the Skylark, so I had to sit in the passengers seat while she drove it 20 mph around the neighborhood.
