XLR8 High Flow Cat!!

We made some updates over the weekend to the website and it included a high flow cat for the 2nd gen CL/TL. We have these in stock and ready to ship.

http://store.excelerateperformance.c.../i-262652.aspx

The XLR8 high flow catalytic converter is a bolt on unit that replaces your restrictive OE unit with a high flow unit made for Excelerate by Random Technology, well know for their high flow and quality cats. It consists of a stainless steel body with 2.5" inlet/outlet, 300 cell metallic substrate, and floating flanges for ease of installation.

XLR8 Performance Exhaust products are designed for function, form and style. Each exhaust part starts with high grade stainless steel. All exhaust tubing is mandrel bent on sophisticated CNC machinery for a precise fit and uninterrupted exhaust flow. Each XLR8 high flow cat consists of a stainless steel body, 300 cell metallic substrate, and floating flanges for ease of installation. The XLR8 high flow cats are manufactured for us to our specifications by Random Technology.

Since 1993, SuperStainless catalytic converters from Random Technology have been setting the standard for high flow, high efficiency catalytic converters. Over the years, improvements in chemistry and metallurgy have enabled Random Tech to continually upgrade catalytic converter performance and durability. As a result, SuperStainess converters with either metal matrix or ceramic cores continue to be the best catalytic converters available.

Nice...! Please can someone explain the benefits to this upgraded catalytic converter?

Is this more advantageous to people who supercharged or turbo'd or does everybody benefit from this upgrade?

Just trying to educate myself.

more air flow, instead of bottle-necking the exhaust system. most people either get a test pipe (illegal) or this for more flow.

Yeah I was trying to figure out what the performance gain might be...

I'm sure it would make a much bigger difference on a car with the right mods.

A little bit of torque is lost (2 ord 3), but the HP goes up. I am pretty sure someone dynoed this a while ago.

I had one on my CL back in the day and I could tell there was a difference. If you have full free flowing exhaust, it is probably a good idea to get your car tuned.

The RT cat has a 2" IN/OUT so it's designed more for stock header and exhaust.

P2R Test pipe - $85
Autozone Anti-Foul Adapters - $7.50
Gaining 10whp for less than a hundred bucks with no CELs ...... Priceless.

I just wanted to confirm that this is exactly the length of the stock cat right? Also what are the benefits of the floating flanges, fitment? I signed up for the group buy, 4 more needed.

Very good question on the length. The flanges look about the same as the stock flanges.

Yes this is the same length as the stock cat. The floating flanges are how RT makes the cats. It's easier to install and easier to line up.

YMMV basically, obviously people with the "exhaust" mods are going to benefit more than those with no mods.

i say intake, headers and full cat back will benefit most from this... that's the minimum that you should have to even consider this.

It's still $300 for a piece of pipe. Spend the $89 on the P2R test pipe and put your cat back on if you have smog testing to get it certified. You get more HP and spend 1/3 of the money.

It's more than a piece of pipe. A pipe is just a pipe. A high flow cat like this one has a 300 cell metallic substrate which is why it costs $300. Also with a test pipe your exhaust will smell b/c you don't have any filtration of the exhaust. And test pipes do not necessarily make more hp. This is a dyno of a highly modified N/A TSX with a test pipe and then a high flow cat:

http://www.tsobad.com/jtso/Images/Test%20Pipe/test%20pipe%20dyno.jpg[/img]

The gains of the test pipe were 1 hp over the high flow cat.

Not only that, but I would have to continuously clean crusted black debris from my bumper with a test pipe. It isn't very pleasant at all
