Xephyr...one question

Why do I need to disconnect the battery after I install the CAI.

I am doing this now, so I am typing as I am waiting.

It was in your instructions, but I don't know the reason? Please explain. Or anybody else who has an answer.

It's to reset your ecu. That way the computer will reprogram to respond to the new part. I dont think it is a must, but if you want it to calibrate right away...

remember to write down your radio codes and such

ahhh, so the computer will reprogram right away, after I reconnect the battery?

I have the radio code, is there any other code I will need, I don't have a navi...

Thanks

Nope, dont think there is any other code you would need if you don't have navi and stuff. You have to wait like 15mins after disconnecting, the reconnect, start you car and let it idle or something like that. You really don't have to do this, your car will adapt pretty soon.

Avenger,

Sorry I missed that post I was replying to email and printing up some labels for tomorrow's shipments The battery dsconnection is to reset the ECU of fuel mappings. The programmable fuel mappings are "re-learned" in simple terms after a 20+ minute disconnect of the battery. It learns new fuel mappings ie. intake velocity to optimize air/fuel ratios to a degree. Glad to see it worked out for you

CL-Super:

There are multiple colors available and the polished finish. All are the same cost. Visit the website for some more detail or pics. Some of the site needs to be updated, that is on tomorrows agenda.

Clevie,

There is a small credit card size printed card usually in the glove box. It is generally in the leather binder that your owners manual is in. If you do not have it, contact your dealer as you will be w/o radio if you need to disconnect the battery for any reason. Additionally, You only get three attempts to enter a code before the unit disables for theft protection... so enter it carefully !

i've heard of people clearing out their ECU just before running time trials. they usually run the sh*t out of the car on the way to the track so that the computer maps everything aggressively...so STOMP on it boys!!

After reconnecting your battery, you should let it idle for 10-15minutes.

Iridium,

The 3min of idle didnt do any damage, you may have not given the ECU adequate time to calibrate initial mappings. However, It learns new volumetrics over the course of the next 75-100 miles. Such that, you should be in good shape. If you have any doubts, you can always repeat the ECU reset at any time.

Hope that helps.

or you can be like me and am still trying to find the radio code card that I filed in my filing cabinet. Until then, I've been going 2 days w/out Radio or NAV. Sigh.

So much for trying to be organized. I knew exactly where it was before I organized everything. ha!

Ult,

just call you acura dealership up, and ask them what the key code is. When I lost my card for my Integra, I just called up the dealership verified certain information, and they gave it to me.

I would say yes. Or at least I would certainly hope so!! I had my headers installed today and the shop did NOT disconnect the battery. Since I've only driven it about 15 miles, I cannot really tell much of a difference from the headers. I'll put some miles on it this weekend and the ECU should have "learned" by then.

Are you going to actually disconnect the battery or just drive?

I swear I noticed a difference when I left the dealer with my headers--the car screamed more near redline and I could actually hear the exhaust gases leaving throught the thinner walls of the headers.

I would certainly give this a shot if I could train the car even better than it is now.

JZ:

This will have little to no effect on you as there is no adjustment for the exhaust by resetting the ECU. The ecu recalibrates the PGM-FI for optimal fuel mixtures based on intake velocity and volume.

Well as my opinion is biased, maybe it would be a good idea to ask Iridium, AvengerJr, or anyone else that has purchased and installed the unit already.

Acura S:

Well I honestly think that my product stands apart from the crowd for a few reasons. Im paraphrasing another thread I wrote, but basically the Xephyr Performance CAI offers quiet and smooth operation for daily driving, aggressive performance and snarling acoustics under hard acceleration, the asthetics of polished aluminum, the quality of a 9" High-Flow K&N filter element and the safety of the AEM Bypass valve. This is all for $200.00 shipped to your door. I see no other vendor that has produced this or any product specifically for the Type S at the request of a web message board with all the features and the most affordable price. Ofcourse that is my opinion and it is certainly biased greatly, however, judging by the spirit of the reviews thus far .... I haven't see anyone dissapointed with the product and all have had rave reviews.

Total cost is $200.00 inclusive of shipping. Shipping will be UPS Ground which averages 3-5 days depending on where you are in regard to new jersey.

I'm just gonna drive. I'm trying not to give any impressions until I get a little more seat time. There is a slightly raspier engine sound and I think I can hear the exhaust gases as well. I think maybe the car seems to race to the redline a little quicker too, but it is an extremely minute difference if any. Basically, at this point, I cannot detect a stronger pull above 5000rpm which is what I expected. I was NOT expecting a huge difference, but I was expecting to be able to tell SOME difference which I cannot at this point. We'll see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

GoldTypeS,

That does not sound correct at all There is a chance the headers were not torqued down properly and the gasses that you hear escaping are actually blowing by the gasket...Hence the not so spectacular results.. I know everyone with headers has nothing but praise for them and will swear on a stack of bibles as to the performance gains... You may want to verify the installation....
