Xephyr CL-S vs M3

This was posted on the "magazine racer" thread, but I wanted to start a new thread because that one is too long as it is already.

This is copied and pasted from the other thread:

Originally posted by Xephyr2K:

Grow up.... 50% of race stories may be B.S. but you dont know all the facts unless you are there ..... the other half are true .... Stop trolling and enjoy your car .. its a great car..-BUT,IF ITS STOCK..,,,,, MY "MODDED CL-S" WILL BE AS INTIMATE WITH IT AS YOUR PROCTOLOGIST IS WITH YOU in a 1/4 mile..... fair race? ofcourse not ..... my sig shows only 1 mod ...(the only one you would noticeably hear on the street or track) Catch my point? P.S. - 1/4 in 14.4 to 14.5 is ONLY with the CAI.... come play w/me now.............

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, I'm not trolling.

Secondly, I never said that my M3 is a quarter mile terror. It is not. As a matter of fact, it's better as an auto-X car than a drag strip car.

I see you live in NJ. I'm in NY, just a few miles North of the Jersey border.

Let's meet and see who really is faster. I'm calling you out, bud. Whadda ya say?

In the interest of fairness, I have to tell ya that my car is stock, but not totally so. I have a software upgrade that gives me a few more horsepower, disables the top speed governor and allows a higher redline, before I hit the rev limiter.

Stock, I ran a best of 13.9 at Englishtown Raceway. Now? Who knows, maybe a tenth of two better.

So shall we see who's gonna visit the proctologist now?

Let me know.

------------------------------------------
Xephyr,
If you agree to this challenge, let's make it interesting.

If YOU beat me, I'll pay you for 3 of your intakes, to be given for free to any forum member that you choose.

But if I beat you, YOU give away 3 of your intakes to any forum members that I choose.

This way there's something at stake, and some members of this forum will benefit either way. Fair enough?

Also, if you want, we can do a "best out of 3" race, that way there won't be any excuses like "I got a bad launch" or anything.

Let me know.

Sounds like a great idea, I want to see what is going to happen. However I highly doubt that its fair because both guys probably have mods that they are not telling But in any case I want to see this race

I stand behind Tom2 all the way. Kick some butt bud and win some of our fellow Acura buddies some intakes.

The guy is probably asking comptech to build a supercharger, and fast!!! before the race.

Doesn't matter what year M3. I think Tom has a '98 E36. As long as its not a '95 M3, then with its chip upgrade they are all the same in the E36 class. Now, if Tom 'had' the '95 M3 with the chip upgrade (hehe, devil within).

Thats my next car, the '95 M3. I can feel the power now...Once again, go get em Tom!

Mine is a 99 M3, 2 door hardtop.

M3Sins, If you're interested, I've noticed a guy in my area selling a mint condition 95 M3 with only 15K miles. I don't remember his asking price. I think the color was red. Don't remember much else. If you're interested, I'll see if I can find the ad.

Soopa,

When I win, er uh, I mean IF I win , I definitely think you should get a free intake. After all, you're the guy that bought us this forum, right?

Actually, if I were Chris, I would've given you one as a comp, just because of the sales that your website generated for me. Seems like good business to me.........

That would be great if you can get me more info on that car. 15k miles! Wow! Thats amazing. I'm also trying to hunt down a '95 Lightweight M3 (hard as hell to find for a good price).

Thanks

W/ out headers, I'm going to have to be on Tom's side. also since his m3 is stick I wouldn't really race him. But still up to u.

I suggest u get some Z rated tires Quick.

I could use an intake too.

The only time I was able to pull hard on my buddies auto m3 was when I was in 'header' rpm 5000k +. also, go take yo spare tire out and other junk u don't need. this should be fun.

This would be a very interesting race. I have the AEM and raced a buddy of mine with a 99 M3. He has the software upgrade, Dinan CAI and UUC short shifter. Before CAI, he walked away from me. After CAI, we had a race where I was only half a car length behind. Granted it was pretty cool out. I have NEVER beaten him. But since Tom only has the software upgrade it would be pretty interesting. I still think that there's no way in hell that a CL-S can take 2 out of 3 from a 99 M3.
The problem that the CL-S has is that the M3 takes us off the line until we hit VTEC. Once in VTEC, we can acutally gain some ground. We also get some more back when he shifts, but then we lose some when we shift. The advantage is off the launch.
So if the CL-S has better tires, a good launch and VFAC controller to lower shift point from 4800 to 4300 and CAI. I can see it maybe slightly edging an M3 with only software upgrade.
Go and race!!!!!!!!!! Video tape it also!

Not fair? He has his infamous intake. Plus he hints that he's got other mods that wouldn't be noticeable on the street or track.

My car ONLY has a software upgrade, no other mods at all. Let's not forget that Xephyr said to me, "come play w/me now".

If has his intake, plus headers and exhaust, it probably will be a decent race. NOS, on the other hand, would be unfair, IMO. I'm not running NOS, so I think in fairness, he should not be either......

As someone who only reads these amusing bravado stories, it is rare for me to post. But considering that I find the betting reward rather unfair, I'll speak up.

Xephyr can't make these things fast enough. Thus he does not need you to buy any. Also, you might be giving them to someone who would have bought one eventually. So if you really want to bet TomTom, why don't you promise to answer his phones, email and posts for a month. Heck, you can even wear your skirt.

I'm afraid a psychologist and 12 months would be required to find out why you are so enamored with dissing the CL-S. And I know, you owned one before. That is probably where your angst started.

On the playground of car enthusiasts, there are no rules so keep posting! Ok, back to read only mode.

******* Amused reading this on the beach ********

Tom2: If you want to quote me .. then do so .. but use the entire message .... not clippings you find pertinent. My post clearly said "apples to apples" and once you begin adding mods you no longer are racing in the same class..... And I clearly said I am modded ..... But you still pushed the issue ............ BTW: Why would you upgrade the software w/o Dinan intake, exhaust, short throw shift...etc....- Realistically that commits you to running 92+ octane with little gain...- again whatever works for you. Take the time to re-read my original post before putting any more then pride on the line .... remember ... apples .. apples....

Besides NOS does anything else seem unfair ? Should I reduce displacement , understroke, swap heads, remove headers, remove induction, can the computer,no slicks ? ....... Catch where I am going with this? I'll reiterate my original statement .. The CL-S is an all around performer with value, comfort, and great performance.... STOCK.... with enough time and money even a civic can run a 8.684 sec 1/4 mile and beat any stock production car made to date. Rethink my posts and catch the idea most people here already know.... The CL-S is an all around great car... Every race is 90% driver .... stock M's are fast ... but ... left stock can lose to a modded car w/a better driver... PERIOD.... conversely a CL-S could lose to a pinto ......

I'll leave it like this.... if you want to run the cars .... Set up a meet this summer ... I'm not taking anything off the car ... I don't give items away - I'm in business to turn a profit . I give breaks to members that are genuine and here to add useful info whenever I can... Meanwhile invest in a Dinan stage 3 kit then you can surely win all your races... most people here could care less whether or not an M can beat a CL-S... if they wanted the trade off they too would have bought a used M rather then a new CL-S.

Poobah - I'm thinking a englishtown meet end of June - begining of July

Funny... I was thinking the same thing. It's also amusing that Tom2 accused me of the same thing about 2 days ago.

Tom,

You know for a fact that your M3 has a greater chance of beating a CLS with just an intake. Especially since you have those extra mods. Secondly, why are you soo intent on proving this to us? Why are you putting money on this as well? Just race your car for fun, don't make this complicated, I've seen plenty of races go from friendly bets to all out brawls over chump change. I would hate to see you, as a fellow board member lose money, or Chris, who is already tight on his margin with his product lose inventory. I read his post and your response and honestly, your kinda picking and chosing his words. Either way just race em' for fun in my opinion.

Well looks like this deal turned sour. How is coming out to Cali going to turn things around? What is so different in Cali than in NJ? Same type of road, a little different temp. Oh well, why beat a dead horse even more!? Looks like no ones getting anything free
