I dont know of anyone who put HID in the roadlamps. Mainly because the temperature would be to hot for the roalmaps housing and would melt. I really would like to see someone take and modify the housing and put an HID or projector setup.

I remember reading a thread about a year ago about putting a higher wattage bulb, but I don't remember if they were HID. Do some research on past threads. I remember vaugly about the thread, but it was fully explanitory also.

there are PIAA bulbs you can replace the factory ones with, which are brighter...and only cost about $15 and 10 minutes to install...

do a "road lamp" search...i'm sure you'll find tons of threads on this.

someone did cover the hole for the brake light, but dont remember specifics.

i hope this helps

Get some PIAA bulbs. Technically you just cant stick true xenon blubs in the drving lamps, xenon bulbs require a power inverter box to convert the voltage from the battery since they require a ton of power to ignite. Go spend $20 bucks on some PIAA bulbs i tink u can use the 8v or 5v (I have 5 and the are a damn close match). If you want tru xenon blubs in the driving lamps, (if it is at all possible) you would have to somehow come up with wiring 2 inverters into the lighting system....sounds like it be a ton of $$$

It's not quite as complicated as you make it sound. The proper way to wire any kind of HID system is to relay the power from the battery, yes. However you CAN simply hook up the + / - to the wires that come down to the roadlamps (and change the fuse, obviously).

Also, it would be false to say that HID lights require more power than a standard halogen bulb (I'm not talking about the 194 bulb), they also run at a much cooler temperature (although brighter). The problem with the HID bulb in the roadlamp housing is that the bulb is long and sits too close to the plastic front of the lamp. If it sat back further or the lens was made of a different material, there would be no problem.

I'm not trying to argue, I just don't want people to think it's impossible, or to be misinformed.

halogen bulbs actually run hotter than hid's so i don't think you'll melt anything. the only prob i see is hid's use more juice to startup so you might blow fuses

edit: and what the above poster said about fittment.....

HID fogs? everyone has that around here.....the bulbs dont get as hot as the halogen lamps anyway so that is definitely not the issue. I always see cars with HID headlights and matching fogs several times per day so i doubt there would be any electric or fuse issues as long as it was hooked up properly (since so many people do run that setup). Obviously you need a HID system to run it though (separate from your headlights) as i understand it.

im pretty sure there is no one on the 2nd gen CL board with HID fogs... But your right, other cars do. It would take alot of fabricating to get it to work on the CL without it looking like cap

All of this talk about it, I spent some time tonight figuring out how to do it.

I've got everything that I need but a sheet of Lexan. When I find some time to complete the project I'll let you know how it goes.

What are you using? I always thought it would be cool to take the lexus is300 fogs and fit them into our roadlamps and use them as a DRL

Thats a good idea too. I have 2 options. I have a set of H3 HID 6000k lights sitting in my garage, and I happen to have some PIAA fog lights OR some h3 projectors.

I'll either retrofit the projector into the roadlamp housing, and replace the plastic lens with another material, or fiberglass the piaa lamps into the 03 insert with the HID kit installed.

There's no doubt that I'll do it, but I have 3 HUGE projects at work to tackle first.

I think that if I can mold the PIAAs into the 03 housing, it has the potential to look a bit cleaner, and I would have that IS300 look if I were to go with the 3000k bulbs I just found

yeah similar I suppose, and I haven't looked close at what he did, but I would only use the housing for the shape, and then fiberglass around the light so that it looks like its supposed to be there.

I think projectors would look better and I can try that too, but I'm not sure yet. Definitely possible to do, I just need the time.

Would be nice to somehow fit them into the roadlamps and make it have an OEM look. Like it came that way. Im asking some guys from my.IS.com about wiring and dimensions.. so i may give this a shot as well
