Cars are in a diffenrent class. The CL-S is more luxury. If you are a stoplight racer you need the subaru.

The subaru is the OMNI GLH of the new millenium. Cheap quick and chincy.

I've found both are equally expensive to crash into a wall

Agreed! You can't just compare the cars on face value. As was said the Acura is a luxury car and the Subaru is not. Aside from the price tag, compare the features and compare the warranty and the treatment you receive at service.

Maybe he should look into crash tests as well?

what do you want? Blazing speed and an incredible handling car, but give a little on interior aspects (and the STI is a good upgrade from the basic WRX).

Or do you want something that has nice interior features, a good strong highway motor, and is more luxurious.

If you want to tune the STI at all, if i were you; i'd take the subby in a heart beat. BUt you may also want to look into the lancer evo.

The WRX STI is gonna be a freakin beast. It's got a better face than the standard WRX but it's still a Subaru and it does not have any nice amenities that unfortunately I am used to in my CLS already. I am gonna look at one though as it's still an VERY AWESOME car.

seeing that you don't have a CL-S and are looking to get out of your first gen. Take the WRX.

I'll agree with anything Chief F1 says. Anyone that has J. Geils Band lyrics in their signature is ok by me

Some fellas like the smiles they wear
Some fellas like the legs that's all
Some fellas like the style of their hair
Want their waist to be small.
I don't care if their legs are thin
I don't care if their teeth are big
I don't care if their hair's a wig
Why waste time lookin' at the waistline?
First I look at the purse!

I would go with a base WRX and use the extra money you save from the STI to do the upgrades.. like the 6 speed tranny, better Turbo/IC setup. You will get a better car for about the same price. IMO.

not true at all. The majority of people who do turbo upgrades on the base model use the STI turbo. The STI is a much better platform to start with. And doesn't the STI come with the 6 speed? The price of the turbo and tranny alone will make up the difference between the two.

Listen to this man for he speaketh the truth. If you lurk the SCOOBY DOOBI SUBARUBI ROOOO message boards you'll see this is what the tuners are doing.

The STI's will definitely be the out of the box modded RU to own but at an up front cost BUT you at least get the warrany .

Hum.. I spoke with the guys at my local performance shop they specialize in Subaru's, and that's what they recommend me doing if I choose to go with a WRX for modding. They told me that I can get everything STI has and getting better Turbo's for the same prices if I was going to buy the STI when it comes out. Here is there website. If you don't believe, you can contact them and see what they say.

I agree with you both, but I guess it depends on wheather or not he wants to mod it or keep it stock. Because if he wants to mod the car either way, the base WRX is a cheaper way to go, that is all I'm saying.

CLS2001, your friends may have mislead you. Go over to the scobbie board and see what mods people are doing. THe sti has a much stronger block then the base model. I believe it's a closed deck and the base model is open. It can handle alot more power and is basically undestructable. It also has variable valve timing. A much superior car all around. You could save some money and make the base wrx a good car. But it will never be able to handle the power the sti car would.

Also, if you were to just get the base car equal with the wrx, it wouldn't cost cheaper.

also, watch and see how many people dump their modded wrx's for the sti when it comes out. THat will show you which car is superior.

first of all i would like to thank you guys for all the opinons. second of all i am keeping my cl-p inspite of what you guys think (im going to crash it or what not). so my decision was keeping the cl-p instead of selling so i have auto and a manual. cl is for the lux ride and the sti for the speed. anyhow a sti is well worth the money or can you guys think of something around the 25grand area that is more worth it? also i've heard sorrect me if im wrong, if i get and sti and i add 4grand to it i am able to make it a 11sec car? i think it was turbo upgrade and a down pipe and i think pulleys

Hey Greenmonster, "take out, yer false teeth mama, I wanna suck on yer gums! REmember that one?? J. Geils Band Full House best party album of the 70's!! I played harp for a lotta years in bands that mimicked J. Geils. Some friends of mine even got me to play w/ a Country Western band once in Houston It took me months to learn "Whammer Jammer" and even harder, the solo in "Detroit Breakdown" on the live album (Blow your Face Out)

I was choosing between the WRX and the CL-S, I chose the CL-S in the end because of it's stronger engine and it's interior and because i previously owned an integra. But if you want to go with a beefer sports car go with the WRX, you'll have more fun tinkering with it than the CL since they offer more items for the WRX. and the wrx is TURBO! hehe
