Wrecked the CL...

Well today had to be the worst day ever for me. I wrecked my baby, and it was my fault. I was driving home from school and was stopped at a light. The light turned green so I let off the brake and let it roll (About 5mph). About that time the sun came out from behind the trees and blinded me, at that same time the person in front of me slams on brakes. I didn't even see her until I hit her. My car went under hers (Volvo station wagon). Didn't even scratch her car, unfortunately mine didn't fare so well. She insisted I not call the police because she had places to be so I drove my car home. While I was waiting for my dad to come look at it, I saw two more wrecks also take place in the same place due to people slamming on brakes and the sun.

Here are the pics...

I'm pretty sure the radiator is fine, and I don't think it bent the core support. The grill is cracked in three places, but the bumper might be salvageable. I'm not going to file it under insurance, just pay out of pocket.

Im suprised the vulchers hav not started calling dibs on a part out!

As the cars owner I bet it looks awful.
But that does not look too bad. Kinda gives you a reason to go Carbon Fiber hood, if your into that!

Sorry to see it man!

Dad only wants OEM parts on the car, otherwise I would get a CF hood.

Not mad at all. They were really cool about the whole thing, they knew it was an accident. They felt really bad for me because they know how much I care about that car.

Damn bro!

Sad for you to pay for this out of pocket.

The same thing happened to me with my golf...same scenario.

Your dad only wants OEM parts on the car?

Is it yours or your dads?

You should see if you can pick up anything from Kris's part out thread in the BM before the vulchers pick it clean.

Could have been worst and at least your headlights look fine.

Looks like you slid under her bumper.

its def going to cost more than you think, make sure the impact didnt break your headlight seal. are you paying for volvos damage? if not, then you'll get a call from your insurance company at some point and your rates will go up

Sorry man, I know the feeling. looks almost exactly like mine....

That was $3100 insurance fixed. minus my $500.
I'm sure I could have gotten it done a little cheap if I ordered used parts, or got the parts together myself or didn't have some thing replaced. Insurance always makes you pay for the part & anything surrounding that part.

I mean it really looks the same. No rad or core support either. It was all just bolt on parts. Hood, grill, trim, headlight, hood latch & release, plus paint, blending, & labor. The bumper was untouched, but it was repainted.

eh, thats nothing! a good body shop will have that fixed up in no time.

but, Your crazy man. Go thru your insurance company. thats going to cost a couple thousand dollars to fix out of pocket. thats what you've got insurance for.

unless, money is no worry for you, of course.

No, it didn't even scratch her car. She didn't get any info from me.

I'll check that thread out. It's my car, but dad wants OEM parts, and since he's helping pay for it I'm not going to argue.

damn das sad but easy fix

hey man sorrie to hear and see the pic of this accident but dont woorrie about this damage too much . its minor. i had a tl and i had a similar damage to it and it costed me about 350 dollars to fix and spray the whole hood.when u get your car hood fixed make sure u check the hydrolic pumps are not damaged because they hold your hood up . after i got my tl fixed my hood no longer held upin the air with the support of hydrolic pumps cuz in that minor accident they got a minor damage, also make sure your hingies are not damaged cuz if your hingies are damaged then your better off buying a new hood i recently got into an accident with my 2003 acura 3.2 cls 6 speed . n ive damaged more severe then the buddy's pic on this thread.
i need a new rad support new ac condenser new radiator . apassenger side fender. a whole hood , new bumper new passenger side headlight. and a passenger side airbag and i still dont knoe what else needs to be fixed its coasting me close to 4000 dolalrs right now with a regular spray paint job included.
so feel blessed its nothing. my car is not even drivable. i'll post up the pics of my car accident soon so u can feel my pain lol.

I'm his brother. He does NOT want to go through the insurance co. His insurance is already $200-250 a month and will go up to $400-450. I despise insurance companies. They are the only people that penalize you or charge you to use the product for which you paid. I told him it'd be $1500-2k to fix. A hood runs about $500, a grille $100, bumper cover $300--plus labor, paint, and a few latches, screws, etc.

I've been searching all of the OEM parts places. I used to write service at the mega dealership here that had an Acura franchise. They won't give me the hook up on parts anymore unfortunately. Even with shipping, it looks like he can get the parts at the wholesale price through one of the online dealers, then find someone to paint and install them. He needs to get a quote for parts from the body shop too. If the online dealers can beat it, he should just order them and have them shipped there.

We're trying to go with the most cost effective. It's really sad he pays all that $ for insurance but now can't use it because if he does, it will double. They say insurance fraud causes rates to go up but I don't see the insurance industry losing money. Yay for those out there that actually can get extra $ out of them...whether it's fraudulent or not. Insurance defrauds the customer. They wonder why fraud rates are so high. It's going to be a sneaky cat and mouse game back and forth until something is done with this industry. With a past car, I threw a fit and made them replace my Civic parts with OEM or I was going to be their worst nightmare. I made their life hell until they did it. I told them I didn't cut corners and pay a fraction of my premium and that they weren't going to do the same for me.

Maybe my parents should shop for quotes for him based upon 1 accident and see if they can find coverage at or about what he's paying now; then file a claim with Allstate, get the car fixed, then drop Allstate for the cheaper company.

I totaled my 00 WDP TL with 104k a year ago in Feb. and I drive an 01 LGM TL with 58k on it now, so I know what it's like to wreck your beloved car.

Yeah, I looked at that bumper. It can be fixed. The marks on it rub off with your finger. There are some "dings" and stress cracks in the pant, but otherwise it can be fixed. Since the actual plastic cover is only about $300 bucks, I figured you might as well replace it if you want it to look right; then again, it may be alot cheaper just to buff it out and touch it up.

My corporate office is in Houston; unfortunately, I'm not due to go back there for awhile as I work out of my home here in Mobile. Worst case scenario, we could make a trip to Houston; it's only a 6.5-7 hour drive. We both drove over there to pick up my Taurus SHO I bought last year.

Do you do bodywork yourself or just know someone?

Core support got bent. It's about $2000 in damage. That includes parts and labor.

Ouch man. Really sorry to hear that. Don't worry about the money though. Honestly, I don't think about the money if i'm shelling out a nice chunk of it for something. Bitching isn't going to do anything. Get it in the shop, get it out in 2 weeks. You'll feel a lot better seeing it come out of the shop completely repaired, and the money will be more than worth it.

Sucks that your dad only wants OEM parts on the car, but maybe it's for the best. If your CL was really flashy that would only attract thieves. That's why I'd only go for interior and performance parts. they're practically invisible from outside the car. Hope it gets fixed quick and without any problems. Damn.

Not really, it could have been a lot worse. It might come out to less than that, that was just a rough estimate.

Thanks for the support man. I'm glad I'm getting OEM parts, because if it happens again the metal hood will absorb the damage again. I should have it out Monday, if all goes well.
