Would You buy a 1991....

300ZX twin turbo with 199k miles on it as a project car? it already has some mods done to it : K&N intake, performance chip, turbo fuzzy logic controller, larger intercoolers, stiffer anti-sway bars, 5-way tokico shocks, metal brake lines and upgraded pads rotors, and exhausts...how much do you think the car would be worth? how long to nissan engines last? would it be a good project car?
i know thats a whole lotta miles on the engine, but the owner says he changed the oil ever 2500 miles or 3 months whichever came first...whatcha guys think? i'm looking for a turbo car for cheap that looks good and can be modded...any other ideas?

thanks

buddy of mine bought one with 90k on it and the engine was shot before 100k. i know nissans usually run forever but thats my only experience with a 300zx. they are cool looking cars though...take it for a test drive see if it runs strong.

199k mi. is a bit high... and you know hes been running it hard...

but if the price is super cheap, and you've got then extra cashola, then go for it.

I almost bought a 95TT. Damn car insurance.

Search the net. See what a crate motor cost. Then figure out how much of a project you want and worst case scenario. Things can get $$ if you don't do it yourself.

The motor is not that hard to pull with the hood off. Lots of people do it to replace turbos. There use to be some "how to" write ups on the net.

$2500-$3000

Figure, the mods are worth $1500 by themselves...I'd do it.

***K&N intake, performance chip, turbo fuzzy logic controller, larger intercoolers, stiffer anti-sway bars, 5-way tokico shocks, metal brake lines and upgraded pads rotors, and exhausts***

Nissans are strong cars, motors built very well. Buy it, pull the motor & paint at the same time...good as new. New interior from Autoleathers.com, some spit shining...Fast car, looking good for under $10K...

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Nissan parts are really expensive. Worse than Mazda but not quite as bad as Volvo. That's what I hear anyway. Could run into a lot of bucks.

And good luck finding someone knowledgeable enough and willing enough to do the work for you. From what I recall, the 300Z's went out of business due to insurance costs and mechanical complexity (emmisions probably weren't great either).
