why? the CL isnt some kind of luxury or exotic or roadster or classic??? its just another sporty coupe? why store it? not to mention, its got plenty of safety features that make it even better in winter conditions than alot of other cars.

Fair enough... I park at a train station every day and have been vadalized 5 times over the last few years. Including my new CL. it was keyed after only 6 days. So, I've wanted a second car for a long time and a good opportunity came up.

If that were my situation, I would just drive a decent used car that doesn't attract attention. Not worth it to have to own two cars just to have the CL.

3 gotta go, so I can buy more !!! I just don't get the "one car fits all" stuff.
I've got the CLS, my VW Westfalia camper, both of which are staying, but the 94 tbird (new owner picks it up this weekend), my late fathers 97 Bonneville, and my brothers SuperCoupe have got to go.
I'll be looking for a pickup to use as a winter beater, and I have been thinking about buying a summer only "garage queen". I figure w/ a luxury/sport, a camper, a pickup and a sportscar ('vert??) I should have all my bases covered

With the salt and sand they put on the road up here, it's tough to keep a car in good condition for long. I would show you the engine compartment of my CLS, but after driving it all winter long, it's probably to scary to post

Paul, nice pick for a winter beater. Keep that 6psd looking good

When I was in MA I had a Vette and a Ninja. Both sucked in the snow, but I drove the Vette all year round. It was the only car I had so I made it work. A few carefully wrapped cinder-blocks in the back for added weight and of course starting in 3rd or 4th always helped. I had a ski rack for the car and used to head to the mountains with it. I got a lot of weird looks. Wonder why...

Practicality is that you buy a vehicle that meats your needs. Lord knows there are enough hybrids, SUVs, Sedans, Coups, Sports, Trucks, transformers

How about the Chevy SSR convertable? That's 300HP of pickup in a convertable. Then the camper, but that shouldn't be considered part of the car/truck corral.

I view the CL as a great daily driver - plenty fast to have fun with, etc. If i were to buy another vehicle it'd be a weekend racer.
That said, i wish i didn't have to subject my baby to these harsh Michigan winters.

If you have to settle for one vehicle, the best your gonna do is get a bunch of compromise. It'll be a vehicle that's a "jack of all trades, master of none". I don't like compromise, hence the need for specialized vehicles. I ain't gonna camp out in the CLS, and I ain't gonna drive fast in a VW bus.
I also don't like banging nails w/ a pair of pliers. If I'm gonna pound nails, I want a hammer. Having the right tool for the job at hand is half the battle.
It also doesn't make sense to me to have cars that are similiar in the driveway (it's redundant). Having a G35c and a CLS in the driveway wouldn't make sense to me. Having a SUV and a 350z does make sense to me.
If you own your own home, it's nice to have a POS pickup for homerdespot runs. I'm tired of having to be careful not to mess up the woodwork in the VW when I'm hauling stuff (the supercoupe engine was hauled back from the rebuilder in the bus).
And yes, it's a Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe. 3.8L supercharged v-6 w/ about 200hp stock. My bro' has his modded up to about 290-300 or so hp.
Hey Paul, sorry 'bout stealing your thread

Did you get snow tires or did you just stick with the stock tires? I'm in CT also (Norwalk), and just picked up a 6 speed. My old car, a 240sx with rear wheel drive, did just fine with snow tires, but horribly without. I wonder if front wheel drive (plus ABS and other techno goodies in the CL) will permit me to just stick with the same tires through the winter.

Monster - no problem.
I ski often so another reason for the winter ride is to go up to the mountains on the weekend. Nothing, but nothing kills a car like sprints up to the slopes. One of the areas I like to keep nice is the wheels. A couple of New England winters will get your wheels to start pitting and eventually look like crap. I like having a nice car and I can afford a second car and have a place to park it. So, I'm giving it a try.
I drove my GSR through 7 winters and it looked ok. But it had more chips in the paint than I could count, the wheels were pitted and it had started to rust. So, the winter driving had taken its toll.
