Window tint for CL-S (navi)!

I hear that the metalic tint interferes somehow with the navi signal/antena on the rear window.

Anyone have any input on this.

I really like the metalic tint, but would not get it if it interferes with the navi signals.

Anyone...

I got my Quantum tint (which is the tint that contains no dye but is made up of some metallic stuff in it) about a week and a half ago and so far there has been no real problems to my navi. I will post some pics if anyone wants to see it.

I got 20% titanium tint all the way around and my navi works just fine. Never heard the thing before about the navi screwing up, oh well. Heres a pic

I would stay away from any Metallic tints.

Although some say there are no problems, why take a chance?
Not to mention REAR RADAR detection is reduced too.
Somewhere on the V1 website I remember Mike Valentine talking about it.

I think it is tint BRAND specific. Some are worse then others, but they all reduce signal somewhat.
I’m scheduled for my tint job next week and I’m going with NON-metallic like I had on my last CL.

btw, where is the GPS antenna in the car? If it is in the front dash like I believe it is, you will have no probs whatsoever with the tint since legally you can't put tint over the windshield...

NOPE…It’s under the rear parcel shelf right next to the drive unit and needs to “look” up through the rear window.

I have gone through it

i have a 2002 cl-s with navi

after tinting the rear my navi was messed up

but after a couple months navi works fine

dont know why

but maybe because when the tint is wet it causes more interference??? i am no bsing or anything

i got a metalic silver tint for the rear and my navi would be way off
but after the tint dried the problems went away...

I called the tint shop and the guy mentioned that only Lexus has problems with metalic tint/navi.

He mentioned never hearing problems with the Acura navi with metalic tint.

The metalic just looks so much better than the regular tint.

Considering what I've heard so far from our members with metallica tint and navi, I'm going to go ahead and use the metallic tint.

If things get crazy with the navi, I'll just pay to remove and replace with non-metallic.

Thanks for the input guys.

Metallic and “regular” should look exactly the same if they are the same percentage of light passage ratio.

I think you’re confusing METALLIC with REFLECTIVE.
Reflective is the tint that has that SILVER kind of MIRROR look to it.

And then you have GRADIENT tint, which is a combination of the two where it gradually goes from silver to black.

Before you put it on I would do a bit more research on this.
Maybe even try laying a piece of tint on the OUTSIDE of the window and watch the NAVI signal screen and see if it goes to yellow.
My tint guy says it causes problems with ANY car and he had to remove it from a car that a guy insisted he put it on.
Not a fun job when you’re dealing with defroster lines and radio antennas back there.

Another thing I remember reading a while back was someone who thought it was working fine, but when the weather was really overcast he lost the signal.
In MY car when there is a bad storm or heavy snow I go to all yellow on the display.
If I had metallic, it probably wouldn’t work at all.

And aren’t you concerned with rear RADAR detection?

There is a different in metallic and regular tint. It's kind of like regular and metallic paint on a car.

While the regular tint looks OK, the metallic tint looks classy!

Not concerned with radar detection, as I don't have one. Quick question for you though! Do the radar detectors detect the beams as they transmitted or simply that a policeman is near by with his gun on? If it detects the gun being on, I might invest the 400 bucks for a Valentine One, as I already have one speeding ticket on my record...

They detect the radio frequency beams from the gun as he is zapping YOU or traffic out in front or behind.

But like I said, on the V1 site I remember Mike saying the metallic tint on the rear window will reduce the warning from the rear.

I have 50% tint on my front window and 5% (limo) on all the rest and my Navi works fine. Very accurate.
