Why are some car salesmen so stupid?
My car is leased and i have a few payments left and am considering buying out the car. I know, with all the transmission problems, why should I even consider that? But honestly, the only 2 cars I like on the market now are the G35 coupe and the M3. And i am saving to buy a house. I'm 25 and want to get a house in a couple years so I don't have to live at home anymore. And I really don't want to get into buying or leasing a new car now. Back to the story..... I go to the dealer to ask about interest rates if I buy out my car after the lease is up. The salesman tries to persuade me from doing that and says I should look into the new TSX. I responded, " why would I downgrade to a 4 cylinder?" He states well it has 200 HP. I state " But my car has 260", . I didn't even mention to him the mods I put in. His response, Well the power to weight ratio makes the TSX faster than the CLS because it is so much lighter!!!!! I didn't even respond to that comment and just went back to talking about the interest rate.

But....... the interest rate on your car if you bought it would be higher than if you bought new. There is very little market for used cars with all the 0% or 0.9% financing around.

I know, I just don't want to spend $35,000 + on a new car right now.[

IF you're gonna buy a house, then keep the CL. That's what I'm doing. Why do you want a car payment hanging over your head, and a house payment too?
The CL will still be in style a couple years from now, my miles are low, I'm under warranty for 3 more years, and who cares if the transmission goes out? It's covered! Fuck it! Let Acura pick up the tab!

Why are they so stupid? There's no entrance exam. Anyone can be a car salesperson.
If anything, he's going to get more comission off of the sale of a new TSX than he would if you bought the car you were leasing.
Keep the CL at least until you figure out how much your house payments will be. The first year in a new house is always the most expensive (trust me on this one). Whether you remodel, repair or even just furnish the thing, you'll be laying out all sorts of cash after you move in. Besides, a your car payment will come into play when applying for your mortgage.

I've got the all time bonehead salesman comment! Once while shopping for an Accord the salesman told me that since the EX had 2 tips on its muffler that meant it had dual exhaust. I literally laughed in his face and told him the car was a 4 cylinder. He just didn't understand.

It's not that they're stupid... The days of a consumer walking into a dealership with no idea of or information on a vehicle is long gone. Salespeople are not there to educate or inform, they are there to make the most profit for the dealer as possible.
It probably doesn't help that the turnover in auto sales must be incredible. Acura is probably where they all start off due to the limited number of models and options to keep track of.
