this is why im afraid of nitrous...
check out this video of a NSX on a dyno blowing the motor by using nitrous...not too cool....

But, you can do the same thing (i.e. blowing the engine sky high) by leaning out the fuel maps and advancing the timing in the computer).
:P
I drove a Corrola with Zex, long story short I outran a cop with my headlights off, and the use of someones driveway in the woods, that thing was scary cause it wasn't meant to handle that kinda speed.
anything you put in your car past bolt-ons is harmful.
nitrous is no worse for your engine than a turbo or supercharger.
p.s. My friends car blew up on that dyno also. maybe its cursed. >;]

I mean, just blow some fine granules of sand in the air and whoosh
bye bye engine. Also, what's the dealer with the huge fan behind the car???

hahahah, no kidding, that must have been so fuckin loud being there, im sure most people wouldve hit the friggin ceiling when that happend!! i also wonder what happend after that....its a shame the video clip didnt catch the owners reaction or the other peoples reaction or the aftermath including clean-up and diagnosing what really happend.
For the last time, people please understand:
N2O Doesn't blow engines.. Shitty tuning and running LEAN blows engines.....
Class repeat after me:
"N2O Doesn't blow engines.. Shitty tuning and running LEAN blows engines.."
Sorry to rant and rave but how many times can people blame N20 and fear N20 as being a culprit.... Its like saying Im afraid of guns because they kill people... TRUE, BUT ONLY IN THE HANDS OF KILLERS AND THE UNEDUCATED.... SAME WITH THE GAWD DAMNNNED NAWSSSSSSSSS

you're suggesting that the NSX was running too LEAN
? Also, if the tuning shop blows the engine, they may be responsible to fix it, depending on if they really screwed up up something out of whack, say if they violated emissions output majorly.
Also, my friends dad is a dentist, please don't laugh, if I had an N20 (NOS) kit (not that I would ever want NOS), would laughing gas suffice?

BTW...do you floss?
Medical vs. Racing
In the old days we used to have medical-grade N2O. When Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) came about, they started adding sulphur to the mix. I am not sure on the % composition, but its enough to prevent you from inhaling this stuff. Essentially if you DO try to inhale race-quality N2O, your mouth will become like a nice little donut plus a lot of freezer-burn! :eofl:
The earlier post is correct. A 'reasonable' amount of NOS (depends on how your engine is built) will not harm the car... improper tuning will. The two main reasons you burn valves, melt pistons and crack rings is detonation (timing not adjusted properly) and leaning-out (not enough fuel). NOS 'vigorously accelerates' combustion
The effective compression-ratio is also increased during NOS use.
In any case... like I mentioned earlier, the NSX doesn't seem to have blown its engine.. probably blew out the throttle-plate (some kind of backfire).

OK, the conspiracy theorist in me says, that was not an engine breakage. I watched it several times, and to me, it looks like the smoke comes from the drives side, outside the engine compartment. It sounded too much like a small fire cracker.
Am I the only one who thinks this was staged???
