Why don't our Cl's have DOHC?

Has anyone read the specifics on why our CL have single overhead cams and not Dual OverHead Cams?

The only good reason I can think of is better reliability, and no need to adjust them periodically!

Anyone?

Packaging and costs; plus it really wasn't needed. They hit a good HP/TQ mark with this engine and saved money while at it.

DOHC would make your car much more expensive. The NSX has the DOHC 6 cylinder engine.

I have no idea. But if the car was offered in Japan it would have DOHC and be called a CL-R.

A little thing called resiprocating mass. According to the acura web site the CL has a .3 inch longer stroke than the NSX even though they have identical displacement. If you rev the longer stroke higher via DOHC it could shake itself apart, or at least be very rough in the NVH department!

Don't mistake the CL-S engine for a non-performer! Our engines do outpower every competitor in our class, we loose out on torque to the G35 only becasue its a brand new model. I am sure Acura will surpass them with the new model (the name of the game).

We are up on BMW, Lexus, and any other brand competing with our Cls.

What else would you call a V6 producing 260 hp, if not high performance! And if you dissagree - what do you call high performance?

We only lose out on torque to the Infinity engine due to the .3 litre larger displacement. G35 equals 3.5 litre V6.

Torque is a product of displacement...their 3.5L only makes 10 more lbs. of tq for .3L increase in displacement...in the Max/g35....

Well shit, my old 1992 Camry had a 2.2l inline 4 DOHC engine.
Sure as hell didn't make it a high performance car (an amazing 120 horses!), and fuel mileage was excellent.

So there.

Uhhh.... Don't forget the CL's engine is a J block and not a C block like the NSX.... The better questions would be:

1. Why dind't honda use a different engine that wasn't a J-block in the accord and hence the modified engine wouldn't have made it into the CL/TL.

2. Does it really matter that the engine is SOHC, until someone makes an engine with DOHC and sticks it into our particular car, you'll never know.

If u at headers and a few mods here and there, u can have the 290HP that the NSX has, a bargain if u ask me given the price differential..

If u want more power and have loads of questions, ask honda why they blessed us with a such a great tranny and such a great 4th gear...

The C-block engine used on the Legend/RL was/is SOHC.

The only DOHC six in Honda's stable is on the NSX.
