why do probes race???

I know that this isn't a real big kill(more like a minnow) but a probe tried to race me. I guess the only reason I'm posting this is that I got my headers and magneflow cat installed today(and 8 dos equis) and this was my test. The guy in the probe had some cash in it. It was lowered, exhaust and rims from what I could see. Didn't look too geto.

The CL total smoked him. Ran away from him at the line. At least 8-10 car lengths. Then I slowed down to about 90 for him to catch me just to rub it in. When he caught up I dropped it to 4th and pulled on him like he was driving a metro.

Pls take it easy on me. It's hard to find a street race in ALB. So, even if this was an (anal) probe it was still pretty sweet none the less.

Anyone here in ALB know where to get a decent street race???? It's a bitch at every light racing Impalas and Camerys

I liked that 93' 94' probe. I'd get one as a beater and race people like you if I had the money.

I used to live there and I wouldn't race because at Albuquerque's 5000 ft. elevation my already slow car was even slower! But this was 20 years ago..

I cant believe you guys put up so much crap in here! 8-9 c/l? Was that Probe parked or u were dreaming on racing one!
Anyway, as far as fastest probe times, look around PT (ProbeTalk.com). U can find some 12s PGTs, search!

By the way, what times are pulling on ur ride?

Pimpscls,
Cant u find some useful words, they're kinda :ghey:

The SPECIAL Probe is not racing the special CL-S. Please....do the Probe people REALLY think that they can tank a CL-S even without mods? Trust me....before Mazdaspeed they were garbage and MAzdaspeed started 1 year ago and got left in the dust for entry level rice....I mean Ford!

I agree, used to have a 94 PGT 5spd with on the I/E/HP Tires for upgrades and it ran 6.7 0-60 times. In 4th gear 110-~143 (top speed on mine, hard to tell cause it only registers 1400--it was way in the redline zone...) I think the PGT would give a stock CLS auto a run for the money.

To this date I still haven't driven found a car (in the price range) with an engine and transmission that smooth--it was silky...for 164 stock hp it used the power well. Also, the car was only ~2,800 lbs so the lateral acceleration was .87 stock.

Not too bad. Would like to race one now that we're on the topic.

Lemme' first say.. that your car looks very nice, and i'm sure it's very quick. Buttt...i'm gonna' have to disagree with the 8-9 c/ls you claimed on pulling. My guess.. you encountered an automatic 4cyl. Probe (non-GT). The Probe GTs (2.5 V6) can be very quick, and are very underrated. Many members on PT.com have run 15 flat with a bone stock GT. What are your times in the 1/4th? I dont mean to come on here and boast.. but i'm just doubting the amount you pulled on this Probe. Most people think.. oh Ford Probe.. what a P.O.S., anal Probe, blah blah... but most dont realize it has a Mazda powerplant, and can be a total sleeper..not to mention basic boltons can make them run 14's. There are all motor Probes running low 13s. Again, I dont mean to come on here, and 'educate' but.. I just wanted to comment. Nice race.

I'd like to thank all of you previous PGT owners who currently are running CLs for lighting some facts and experiences u had with Probes

I've owned 4 probes so far and thinking to get a few more! They are cool cars once u get to know them

89LX, 90GT, 93GT, 94GT-ZE (cant go wrong)

Peace, Rigert

I just thought this was funny.

why do probes race???
Why do CLSs race? They are no speed demon by any means.
(not taking a shot at the car because I like them. I don't even consider my car fast) Sounds like an inferiority complex or something. Insulting one thing and trying to elevate yourself at the same time.

Why do people race after 8 beers?

probes

i used to own a 93' probe gt 5 spd, i have to say that it was damm impressive especially on the top end. it was quicker then my 90' 5.0 conv. i traded in for it. plus the handling was serious.
i know the older probes with the turbos can be hella quick.

What do you consider fast? i think many members of this forum would disagree. fast is relevent to what you are driving.
if you saw a toyota echo do 14.5@100mph in the quarter you would have to be impressed. if you saw a viper do 14.5@100mph would would say that's slow as ___ck! anyways i think your car is quick for what it is. a big heavy car like ours.......

What do you consider fast?
Acceleration unequalled from the showroom. (exotics exculded of course.)

In order to be considered fast one needs to be king of the street so to speak. If you pull up to a stoplight, the chances of you being beat by the car next to you are slim to none. In order for that to be true you need to be running very low 12s or high 11s at least. In that case, any car that was kept stock can be scratched off the list. Even most lightly modded cars can't touch you. In the case of a traction limited car where ET won't tell the whole story; trapping +120 is fast. The odds of not being beat are greatly in your favor if the car falls into those guidelines. It takes a little more to be fast, you can't just buy it. You also need to work at it.

This is solely my opinion of 'fast' since you asked for it.

Guess I gotta get to the track soon and see if my car is "fast"... Does 12.6 count as fast? Guess I need a pulley... =)

Dude...probe GT's are fuckin fast & certainly aren't shitty.

I had a 93 manual that was fast as shit stock...handled 10x better than my CLS. Ran the PISS outta that car & never once had an ounce of trouble. Never leaked oil, never needed any repairs in 2 years of ownership & 30K(hard) miles.

I'd love to have one as a beater.

That's funny...I had a 90 5.0 vert also.

I'd have to agree, my Probe was way more fun to drive.

I had a 94 626 LX-V6 5sp (read: 4dr 2G PGT and MX6 LS) and that was good for mid-upper 15s stock. That car was a blast to drive and can max out at 135mph stock. (IMO, I think it could give my auto Maxima run for the money on the hwy.)

With good mods and competent tuning they CAN be made plenty quick. However, VERY few are at that level of tune. But I have seen a couple of PGTs run low 14s @ Etown.

Peace.

I'll never sleep on another Probe. I was at Underground Racing in Charlotte NC for a dyno day and a 96 Probe GT pulls up with an IC. Im like wtf is this peice, so time goes by I talk to the dude and hes running a T3/T4 13psi on a fully stock motor with just 3" exhaust. So after I hear that im guessing cool he might hit like 260-270whp which is impressive. Well first pull waaapshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh done 330whp so Im like holy shit. He had a stand alone to make tuning fairly easy. Next pull waaapshhhhhhhhhhhhh 345whp so im like GD. A little more tuning waaaaapshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 368whp still running safely rich and all on a stock motor . Well we became pretty good friends and hung out a few times at car meets and one night it spiked to 18psi and knock knock knock oops. Well now hes building the motor and I can't imagine how impressive it will be. Thats my little story enjoy...

Lest we forget that Mazda makes that beater...Ford only does the body(which did rattle).

That thing revved high as a kite & never let me down.
