Who's getting a Turbo

Who's getting a Turbo
Just wondering who has decided to take the leap into the turbo world on our CL's. I've noticed on a couple of threads that some people are alluding that they are. Any real takers on this mod?
On a side note, I will be having the custom plumbing made for the turbo on my 6spd model in the very near future. If there is anyone on here that wishes to have one made, PM me. Mine will be the template. The problem you may face is that you will have to run a simular setup to mine, so if you have your own ideas as to the position of the turbo, type, etc, then don't bother. There's more than one way to do it, although, not many ways.

thinjim i will be in contact with mike when i get back from vegas, and want to go ahead with the 3.5L swap and turbo. what type of turbo are you using thinjim? I can't find my turbo mag that had yours in it allmotor, what type did you use? what would you advise us on doing/not doing since obviously you have the turbo set up already

And its great to hear that a turbo application will be made for autos, considering the majority of CL owners have them. Think it would be possible to make a turbo application for a CL-P?

The only difference might be that the CL-P's could run more boost b/c of lower compression.

The kit would be the same for the CL-P and the CL-S... albeit all CL-P's are automatic. The kit should be up and running by the end of Feb I hope! There really is only one place to position a large turbo... soem Accord guys put a non-oil cooled turbo near the cat... but that's flimsy.
I am sure ThinJim will end up mounting his turbo at pretty much the same spot as ours... the exact bends might differ slightly, but the general manifold will be very similar. His motor is built, so I would expect much more power than the measly 419whp @ 5.8psi..!!
Either way, all this stuff is good for ours cars and the CL community!

Sure, it has less compression, and you could boost it, but getting the gasses out of the combustion chamber would be the trick.
link is here if you want to follow along. I'll add to it as i feel fit. There are going to be lots of surprises in this one.

Hell, I didn't even know you were working on a turbo kit for the auto, allmotor.
It depends on how much it will cost, but count me in! When it's ready, I definitely want to buy one from you. Mine's an '03 TL-S, though. I don't see any problems with that, but I'm asking just in case -- it won't matter, right?
Is there a thread anywhere where you talked about this in depth? Just curious. I would love to read up on it.
Thanks.

The one we are building has a completeley upgraded tranny... otherwise
its up to you guys - remember that the turbo provides monstrous torque
even at low RPMS... I made 360 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels.

What would an upgraded tranny entail?
What exactly is beefed up or changed?

just curious...is the beefed up tranny similar to the package from velocity or speed distributors as they are called now, where they also have the addition of an lsd to the beefed up auto tranny? so far this is sounding great

That's exactly what they are refering too.

I think the hardest part would be the actual turbo fan install behind the headers..... what do ya think??

Edit: now that i think about it, putting in a new pan is probably harder than putting a small hole in the pan.

The last kit I sold (off my car)... I sent the oil-pan as well... obviously that adds to the cost.
A new kit w/o the additional injector but with the E/manage etc. will be easily $7K with a ball-bearing turbo. When you add the extra injector assembly, exhaust cutout, tuning, blah, blah, blah... you will approach and possibly exceed $8K. If you pay someone to install it.. expect another $1K.
Then again... if I just yank my kit off my car.. it will definateley 'bolt-in' to a 6spd. No tuning required... just plug 'n boost! I would give the oil-pan as well... so it is completely weld-free!

Actually once you take the header off (J-pipe), the oil-pan isn't hard... just a LOT of bolts!
I have installed/removed 2 different kits now... so its not that bad. Things to check for:
i. Fuel system is setup correctly with good-quality fittings
ii. Oil system is setup correctly with good-quality fittings
iv. Manifold is installed correctly with proper sealing around connectors etc.
v. Electrical system (E-manage) is installed properly
* If the kit is already tuned, then that makes it MUCH easier
vi. Check water-cooling system for the turbo
