Well my brother has a 2000 Maxima SE. We've raced many times. We both have CAI. I *always* win. With that being said, check this thread out:

I test drove a '01 Maxima SE. I was all about it until I test drove a CL-S and felt REAL power in a sports sedan.
If I ever hear a story about a stock maxima beating a stock CL-S I know it's a lie.
The maxima is UNDERWHELMING power-wise, for a car that claims 232hp (or whatever it is).
Especially compared to the Audi A4 (auto tranny no less) I test drove that has a whopping 180hp and felt MUCH more powerful than that Maxima.

I'm thinkin that's B.S. A friend of mine as a 2000 SE auto I have smoked him every time. He has driven my car several times and comments on how he can feel the extra hp. He has also said he now understands the price defference as the CL is so much smoother all around. He has also complained about his body roll since he bought the car ( his other car is a 95 300z though.
I think someone in NY should have a friendly race.......

Actually, it's only 222HP which is a huge increase over the 98 I had. It was 190HP and it was no slouch but it was a 5SPD. It doesn't weight very much...just over 3000lbs. The new Anniversary Edition is 227. The 5SPD will be quick but I'm not sure who would win. All the magazines (geesh, no flames please) claim no real difference in the new Max and the old Max which they had somewhere around 6.5-7.2 to 60MPH. I know the CLS is a hella of a lot quieter! At least we have road noise insulation.

I met up with some Maxima guys here in AZ a few weeks ago. They all had 2000 SE autos. Most of them were modded. I think one guy said he is dyno'ing at around 190-195hp to the wheels which is about what a stock 5spd Maxima dynos at. At the track I was running about .5sec faster than them in the 1/4 mile and could clearly, albeit slowly pull on all of them on the freeway on the way to the track. So someone claiming that a stock auto Maxima beats a stock CL-S is full of it... even with a weight disadvantage.

I'd even say there is more advantage to going against the 5 speed manual maxima 20th aniv. ed. I test drove that maxima before buying the cl-s and the 5 speed manual was sloppy IMHO. It was like shifting a truck.

I have a totally stock auto maxima except for an intake... remember its street... there is a kid counting off... there is nothing that measures reaction times... if i started even a half a second before him that gives me a good lead on him... so please relax... I said i beat HIM not all CL-S... but I will race any CL-S, CL, TL, TL-S that i find on the street and is willing to race... I never went to E-Town yet but i hope to get down there sometime during the summer...

Don't really know how having another person in the car affects you guys w/ the stock CL-S's..
but when I have ONE person in my TL-S .. I've barely edged out auto BMW 328i's.. When I have TWO people (we're all about 180lbs) in the car in addition to me --> I'll run even w/ a stock auto maxima ('01). This has been MY experience. The TL-S is a dog w/ other people in the car. And it also makes me question how these modded Cl-S's (I/H/E) can edge out manual M3's w/ only the driver in the M3 and two people in the Cl-S.
