Who here parks the CL for the winter and drives a beater for the winter months?
Well after owning the CL for over a year and putting over 25k on her due to my job as a Sales Manager/Rep, I decided to pick up a POS to drive for work LMFAO. A 1990 Mazada Protege with only 70k and I got it for 1000 bucks LMAO!!! Its nothing to look at but the way I feel, I will save on gas...the little fucker gets around 34mpg plus the little box has skinny 13inch tires which will work wonders in the snow...all103hp LMFAO!!! I wont be putting useless miles on the CL-S. I am wondering....does anyone park their CL during the winter months and just take it out once and awhile? I love the CL-S and I just cant justify driving 100-200 miles a day with it for work...it is way too nice of a car to put that kind of milage on it per year. Id like to keep it until she is paid off and at least get something decent in terms of selling it and see what Acura has to offer down the road. If I kept up using it for work, the thing would be worthless in a few years.

haha thats a good idea dude... i think it is a good idea to do that. especially since u drive 100-200 miles a day you will save sooooooo much gas. I do the same thing with my moms car. she drives a beater 1992 camry and i drive that for most occasions becasue i dont want to put on more miles onto my TL

I have been doing that for as long as I had my CL. Maybe that's why my 01 CL-S with NAVI only has 6000 miles on it!
Problem with doing that though is the car still depreciates, so if you plan on selling it, the buyer will be getting a steal.

Actually, I drive my other car more than i drive my CL anymore. I have a '99 Subaru Legacy (2.2L 5MT) w/ over 160k miles on i that I drive to work almost every day. Gas mileage is better, I don't have to worry about it getting broken into, and I could care less how many miles I put on it. The CL is currently in the garage w/ a cover over it and I've been driving it a little on weekends, but that's about it. If I go on any long trips, I take the Legacy, even though I bought it for the winter since it definitely has no problems with the snow.

I try to drive my mom's MDX whenever possible in the winter because it's a monster in the snow and I get absolutely no traction whatsoever with my crappy tires when it snows

One of the reasons I bought the CL was so i could drive it in the winter. Its front wheel drive. If i were going ot park it in winter i would have bought something more fun and RWD. I also only drive 1.5 miles to work.

I kept my 97 Prelude when I got the CL. The Lude had about 150K on it when I got the CL and it was worth more to me as a beater than it was as a trade in.

I drive this car at least 500 miles a week and year round.. CL's (at least 6-speeds with HLSD) are GREAT in the snow with proper tires and a decent driver to control wheelspin.

Winters in NC are pretty tame, so there's hardly ever any salt or slack thrown out on the roads to mess anything up. And I have brand new all-season tires on there so I'm all set. I really can't wait to try out the heated seats I've never had those before.

My CL is a daily driver winter and summer... It's FWD, so I better use it in the winter...
I never understood why people would make a FWD car a summer only car. If I had a summer only car, it would definitely be RWD. Heck, I'm thinking about buying a RWD car for a daily driver next (and drive that during the winter).

That's very true, but that was what 3 years ago? They haven't used salt around Charlotte for the past two winters at least. But I do stand by the fact that our winters are weak... it's not the weather that causes all the accidents it's the retarded drivers that only drive on snow once every couple years. Snow-driving skills aside, idiots around here will buy out all the milk in bread in the grocery store like they're getting snowed in for days if the weatherman ever calls for more than an inch of snow.

I bought the car to be driven, not parked. I use mine year round. Its FWD and with a good set of snows nothing stops it.

Yeah when I first got my CL-S6 I kept my G2 Legend coupe as my winter beater. But I really wanted a truck type vehicle as a beater so I sold it and bought an old Land Rover Disco. It's AWD and has a locking diff. So yeah I only put about 5000 miles on my CL a year.

You guys are pampering these cars. I mean they're nice and all, but my neighbor puts more miles on his Ferrari a year than you guys do in a car that is exceptionally reliable all the way through 250k.

Basically, it's because people in MA have forgotten how to drive in the winter. They seem to be under the impression that ABS and traction control and electronic stability programs and AWD can over come the laws of physics.
If one of these knuckle heads is going to take me out as collateral damage, they're hitting the 10 year old 154k Prelude.

I now drive an accord....

So as long as I have a beater the CL-S will stay garaged in the winter

Yea Im Mostly Likely Will Drive My Cl A Little Less This Winter, And Once It Snows, Then Absolutley Not, Coz Ppl Out Here In Nyc Cant Park Nor Drive Properly. So Its Either My Accord Or My Lexus Es300.
I Guess For People Like Me That Lives Near The City Has To Have Their Car Parked In Driveway Or Driven Less Coz Once Snows Hit The Ground Some Ppl Can Lose Control And May Hit Their Cars, I Kno I Dont Want That To Happen.

I use to always have beater cars when I had my Integra's and RSX-S. It always kept them nice and clean, the mileage stayed low. In all honesty keeping up with 2 cars was annoying and expensive. I always got big RWD tanks (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Monte Carlo) so if I was ever hit I'd be safe and I was hit one winter in the Monte.
But yeah, It got expensive putting gas in 2 gars, maintence and so on. Now with my TL-S I use it year round, and although I hate that it's going to get dirty and salty I know it's a good/safe car that will protect me and be very reliable. The way I see it is if you have the extra money to own 2 cars then do it regardless of what it is. In this case the CL/TL.
These cars are very nice for what they are, but arent anything exotic with crazy re-sale value but they hold a lot of value to us because of what they are, and what we put into it, so I def see a point in having a 2nd car that you don't care about. In the future I'll have a beater car again, but for those of us that don't just keep it clean and have good tires on it.
