Where does everybody keep their car titles?
Curious to where everyone keeps their car title(s)??? In the house filing cabinet, locked somewhere in the house, or at the bank in the safety deposit box?
What happens if the house burns down and the title(s) were in the house?
Just curious...

In my filing cabinet.
If your house burns and the title with it. You just apply for a lost title, usually not very difficult. However it may cost $20-$50 dollars depending on which state your in.

I keep it in a file folder in a cabinet in my bedroom of my aunt's house (I travel for work and am home about 5% of the year and stay with her).
Title's are easy to get a duplicate of. It's more or less a piece of fancy paper. There was a scam awhile back (my aunt owns an insurance/notary business) and she was called to testify. The guy involved stole cars from florida, took them here, and applied for a duplicate title, received them, and then sold the cars.
He applied for a couple of them through my aunt's office, so that is how she got involved.

I should be getting my title this month cause I paid off the Honda Finance loan with the first bill!
Not a big smiley cause I still have to pay off my parent's loan I got to pay off Honda. I'd rather give them the interest plus it's a lower rate. Plan to pay it off in 1-2 years. Need to find a secure place for the title tho, or give it to my parents!

Scrib (and all you others): Dave the powder coating guy here, and I've got you covered here...in spades, and it is dirt cheap and safe. Your entire investment here will consist of one zip loc bag. Go ahead and splurge-get the one with the fancy plastic slider!
Put the title in the bag and zip it shut. Then, throw it in the refrigerator and forget about it! July 17, 1997, my condominium caught on fire and it was completely gutted. While the fire department was there, I was lamenting the loss of several important documents, house mortgage, etc, the fire inspector (the first thing they do is check for arson) piped up "You should have kept them in the refigerator. Refigerators ALWAYS SURVIVE A HOUSE FIRE."
Think about it. The damn thing is heavily insulated on all six sides, and the door is held closed either by magnets or springs, so fire can't get in.
Although devestated, my crappy little first home condo was completely rebuilt, and Country Companies forked over $53,000 without batting an eyelash-but ONLY because I was smart enough to videotape all my possessions, make two copies of the original tape and kept them at Dads and my sisters house. My original was destroyed in the fire. I took this opportunity to "mod" the place, just like most here do with their CLs, and it turned out to be the finest condo out of 312 units.
There is a lesson to be learned here boys and girls. Make tapes and distribute (and for gods sake, include the car). I was rather astonished to find out from the tape that I had 105 shirts! The kicker here is NO TAPE, AND NO RECIEPTS FOR EVERYTHING, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING YOU OWN, YOU ARE SCREWED! NO PROOF-NO MONEY! Now, get them cameras rolling!
