When to wash your car

Everyone give me some ideas on when you wash your car and when you wait? For me, I check the Weather Channel and if I see at least 2 days of no rain (and the car needs a wash), I go for it regardless if those next few days are sunny or not. Also if it has been raining for 2 straight days and there's going to be rain off and on for 2 more days, I will wash a dirty car because I can't stand the road splash or the incredible road film that coats the bottom half of a black car.

When the car looses 1-2 seconds on the 0-60 and it is brown or black instead of silver I wash it when ever I feel like it

I hand washed it last sunday and it snowed the next day. I washed it today (45'F) and it's gonna snow tomorrow. I'm just trying to keep the crud level to a minimum and since it only cost me an hour's time I dont really mind. If I'm gonna pay $6 to $8 bucks for a "laser wash" I'll make sure it'll stay reasonably clean for a few days otherwise I'll be spending more on washes then on gas/

Wash it once a week if you live in the snow belt. Keep the salt off and get that wax buffer on.....

I do something similar in checking the forecast and if its not gonna rain for say, oh, a month or so, then I'll wash it

But seriously.... If there is rain forecast in the next 7 days I don't bother. It rained here last Wednesday, and then again Friday and now it's supposed to rain Tue, Wed and Thurs (WTF?!?!?) So it's just staying dirty until we get back into a "normal" weather pattern.

For most of you guys, if you tried the 7 day rule like me, you'd probably only wash your cars a couple of times during your entire ownership!! I used to use the 2 day rule back in Indy. I'd say 2-3 days is good.

I wash it whenever possible (since it lives outsides ). But at least once a week, unless the temp is below freezing.

I try to wash it at least once a week. During the winter, I'll try to wash it about twice a week, if it's not too cold or snowy. I try to make sure I do the undercarriage wash to remove any salt or grime from under the car. I'm a little concerned about how often to wax the car. Will over-waxing eventually damage the paint?

I listen to the news the night before and make sure it isn't going to rain for a while. Then the next day, I wait until the sun is going down just a bit so that the water won't spot on my car as quickly as it would during the afternoon hours. Or I wake my ass up early enough to wash it before the sun sets all the way up.

Car wash every week, and dust the car off w/ califonia car duster everymorning when im warming the car. or when im bored waiting for some one in a parkinglot. and dust the inside w/ a small california dash duster when im stuck at a long red light.
if it rains i use the california water blade to get the water off and dry the rest w/ one of the 10 towels i keep in my trunk to clean my car. and then dust the car w/ the cali. duster.
call me crazy but my car needs stays clean.

so far, I have only washed my car twice since I bought in end of nov, both at this cool car wash place... i like to keep the undercarridge clean, especially after the heavy snow hit the east coast.

maybe i should start handwash it soon...

I wash my car once every three weeks or a month. Sometimes I wash it myself sometimes I take it to hand washed by others.

I had a nasty experience at the car wash once... one of those that just use the ultra high pressure sprays. In my 87 Legend, they just sprayed right through the sunroof seal... Now I'm paranoid about taking it to a car wash... theonly one near here that doesn't use the spray is the kind where the guy drives it through for you... They don't stay in, they just put it on the track and let it go. There is another nasty experience there too...
The dumb jocks they have workign there, somehoy locked the keys in the car. So the car was running, in neutral at the end of the car wash. they had to shut theplace down, so other cars wouldn't ram it.
My solution... have those dumb football jocks use the valet key... and have my keys safely in my pocket. If they lock the doors, with the valet key in it, I shoold be able to open it with the remote or regular key.
One thing... Never, ever underestimate the stupidity of football jocks.

I don't think I'm ever going to take my car through a car wash, much less a place where someone else puts your car in neutral and sends it through! Are you looking for an easy way to screw your car up?

Yeah, I'll probably try to wash mine once a week when the weather is warm. I don't know, it could just be me but I hate it when the water freezes on the car when you are in the middle of washing it.

Actually, it's been warm here lately. Around 40.

My car was so dirty when I came home from school for winter break. It killed me to see all that dirt so I washed it in 30 degree weather. I figured the neighbors already thought I was crazy since I zainoed it every other day in the summer. FYI..layers of ice doesnt rinse soap off well..haha..

Bought my CL-S in early December...

I live in Northern California and the winter weather has been relatively mild and dry so far. So far I've been able to hand wash it every weekend, and will continue to do so as long as it's not raining or below freezing. When the weather is below freezing or raining on a weekend I'll take it to a local wash and just pressure-wash off as much of the week's worth of accumulated road crud as possible.

Screw up the car? I think putting it in neutral and running it through won't hurt it. That's my only choice here. I don't like those high pressure hosed.

About the jock comment... little Italians like me don't try out for football, unless we have some sort of death wish. I was too busy getting confused in trig. In college I was too busy getting confused in Discrete Math and Automata. I'm a pasta slurping, cretin, what can I say! Other than its high in carbo and not fattening. One needs those carbos for ahem... "endurance."
