When to get oil change.
i go 5k. everyone is different. i got this from my father, he has 260k on his accord and 190k on his toyota truck. synthetic oil is just to damn $$$$ to change every 3k. he has had ZERO problems changing his oil every 5 k
depend on several conditions
driving habits
age of the oil
road conditons
technically you can get away with 3700, even 4000 or 5000 and sometimes 7500
but remember oil is what lubricates the motor
beter play safe than sorry
change it every 3000 miles.

I still stick to the rule of 3 months or 3,700 miles.
Even with the newer cars & oils if you stay with in that range you are okay. I go over the range most of the time say 4 months or 4,000 miles. I got my last oil change about month ago & have not driven that many miles since. So if I go by the months I will have it changed again in late June or July. With the low miles I drive a little over 20,000 on a 2yr old car. I still get 4 oil changes per year. But you are safe going over 4,500 miles between oil changes.

For my 2003 CL-S 6 Speed, the manual recommends a change every 7500 miles under regular conditions and 3500 under rough/tough conditions.
I verified this recommendation with the service manager at the local Acura dealer.
Back in the pre-Jiffylube era, all car manuals recommended a change every 7500 to 10000 miles. Jiffylube pushed the idea of more frequent oil changes and it seems most have accepted this mentality over the last two decades. It seems that Acura doesn't believe frequent changes make a difference.
I'm sure if your racing your car or riding in quite rough conditions, a more freqent change may make a difference, but for routine conditions I'm not convinced.
How come you don't have to change your transmission or clutch fluid every 3000 miles? They're oil too.
The manual also implied that you should wait for the first oil change as the vehicle's factory oil is somehow different from the oil used in the later changes. It supposedly should be left in to more effectively clear out metal shavings or deposits from manufacture.

Most everybody falls into the severe driving conditions under the owners manual. The first 7 months of ownership of my car I drove less than 10miles per day. If you sit in stop & go traffic that also is under the servere drivng conditions. I drive more highway miles now so I get change the oil a bit later. The last 3 times its been over 4,000 miles between changes.

I'm going with the 3500mi interval.
After my next oil change at 7k I'm going to synthetic oil too.
