1st time here.
Trying to decide which springs to get, but wondering what do the coilovers do?
How are they different from normal springs?

Also, which springs has the slightest drop?
Comptech or HR(btw: why are the OE sport has more drop at the back vs front? 1.0/1.5)
I still wanna go over speed bumps and all the pot holes in Houston.

Thanks................

Okay...here's the lowdown
True Coilovers (like Tiens)....are a threaded strut/shock and coil spring set up with adjustablility for the spring...lower or higher. These are the best because the strut is designed with the spring to maintain performance.

Coil-overs (like Ground Controls)..are a threaded tube that fits over any strut. These are also adjustable...but they don't have the same kind of performance as a true coil-over...hence, a harsher ride since the strut and spring were not designed to work in unison.
The springs tend to be Linear...meaning the spring rate is set...usually because the spring tends to be shorter.

Springs (Eibachs...Comptechs)...these are your normal run of the mill lowering springs. They attempt to keep factory ride by being progressive...meaning the more pressure on the spring...the stiffer it gets.

This is to the best of my knowledge...

Thanks for the info.
If all I'm after is little lower than the stocks and better performance/stiffer for normal driving, should I just get the springs or would you suggest changing to coilovers instead of just the springs(of course if one has the money)?

I'd say get the lowering springs and get some Koni adjustables...that'll run you a bit of cash...but it's worth it.

If you just want to lower it a bit and don't want to risk a harsh ride, springs are the only way to go...the lower you go, the harsher the ride...simple concept... (More coils on the spring = better shock absorption..) The Koni/Comptech combo would probably work best for your needs...

springs are springs... coilovers are springs with shocks in one and are adjustable

Coilovers(real ones) are really competition parts and as such not ideally suited for normal street driven cars as they tend to be stiff and unforgiving. But they can be the last word if all out handling and adjustability are your main objectives.I used real coilovers on my Civic and took them out as the ride was just too much for our streets in the tri state area.Jens
