OEM unless your supercharged them go for either Redline or Amsoil, i've used Amsoil and I liked it (both NA and SCed). Has anyone tried Royal Purple A/T fluid?

When it comes to the auto, stick with the Acura/Honda OEM fluid.

^That's what I've read/heard as well, but I've been using Redline since 60K miles (at 94K now) and I've never had a problem and still on original tranny <knocking on wood>. I'm sure OEM is fine as well, I just wanted to try something different, plus I seem to remember the shifts being a bit smoother.

if oem fluid is the best, then why are the stock tranny so weak. i just though using a aftermarket fluid would help out the tranny alittle ?

i was going to use the redline oil also, but there are like 4 different ones. theres a high temp, c-1, d-4, and racing fluid. so which one are you using

thanks

OEM fluid supposedly has a special additive that others don't that helps prevent overheating, and promotes better lubrication, of the gears.

I use Redline D4, although I hear good things about the High Temp formulation (which Comptech also recommend's if S/C'ed). Just make sure it's compatible with Dexron III which is what newer Honda's/Acura's require.

I've used Amsoil Universal ATF which meets Honda Z-1 specs. I've had good luck with it. It doesn't break down as easily as the OEM Honda Z-1 stuff. It's more consistent with varying temps.

Worked pretty well for me, feels a little thinner and as a result you cna hear your tranny a bit more, not a problem or annoyance just a past observation. At least thats how it was with my 4spd AT back in the day.

Trans fluid & auto tranny reliability do not correlate. You could run $100/quart
fluid & still the auto may crap out.

The thing to remember is that it's not a 100% failure rate. If you've got a good tranny and you're going to keep your car over 100K miles, you might as well do what you can to take care of it. I may be overly optimistic but I believe You can't base everything on the worst case scenario.

When 5 of your cars over time had trans problems & 1 left you stranded 500 miles from home........ I can.

thats one way to think but thats not the way it works. Fluid type IS NOT the problem in our trans. Fluid getting to where it is needed is.

My 5 failures would lead me to believe that its the majority as well
