The valve lifters on my 89' Legend click
when the engine is cold started. Using a
little thicker oil (10w40) generally quiets
them for a while. Also, I hear that dumping
transmission oil down the crank shaft right
before your next oil change helps, but
haven't tried that.

Maybe your experiencing a different problem
because I thought this click was related to
having hydraulic lifters and CLs don't have
them?

I believe that, because our engine uses roller rocker arms,no routine adjustment is recommended. (The service manual indicates that adjustment is required only if valves are noisy.) As the rollers all but eliminate rocker arm wear it is unlikely that any adjustment will be required.

Perhaps Jens can shed some light on this.

Maybe the author could check his CL Manual and maintenance book that comes with every car. It seems like most of us love the CL but don't read the manual.
