what happens when you push the "Select" and "Reset" button

what happens when you push the "Select" and "Reset" button for your tripometer while the car is running. I know if you push them at the same time while the car is off and hold for ten seconds it gets rid of the "needs maint" light on your dash, but what happens when your car is running.

I did it today while the car was running, cause I was stuck in traffic and the damn "needs maint" light was lite on my dash. It made my temperature gauge flash, then disappear, then it showed this sequence:

+2
+1
0
-1
-2

then back to the outside temperature reading.

What in the world does that mean?

OK, it adjusts the temp gauge to +1 or 2, or -1 or 2, etc. Sometimes the temp is incorrect in the car, and you can correct it for outside temps.

Enjoy

while I was stuck in the same traffic I looked it up in the owner's manual (damn ppl need to learn how to drive in snow). It only describes how to get rid of the "maint required" light. Maybe I missed it.

Thanks for the answer though.
